It is still blowing a bit today-possibly in the 20-30 mph, but the storm is over. We often lose a few birch, cottonwood or spruce trees in a good blow, but in the past I've looked out my bedroom window to see the top 10-20 feet of a 70-80 foot spruce trees snap right off and going flying into the dark gray mass above us. The tree has nearly bent over sideways before the top went and it always amazed me how these spruce trees could do that and not just be pulled out by the roots. We have this massive spruce near our house and I often pray this beautiful tree, which sticks out all by itself, will survive another season of storms and not collapse on my home. If it happened at night and proceeded in a westward direction, I would probably never know what hit me as our bedroom would be the first thing to go. Or, maybe I'd end of in Oz, where my color vision wouldn't be considered a problem anymore. Though, with my size the munchkins might be a problem; Dorothy was only 5'4" and I am over 6'5". I used to stand 6'7", but my spinal damage has shortened several of the gaps. Much like a spruce trees and I've shrunk some. For those of you who never heard this- I was 6'4" when I finished high school and my tour in Vietnam frightened me so much I sprouted up another three inches in one year to 6'7". Unfortunately, whatever I picked up in my tours in Nam and Thailand, also put over 100 pound of life ring around my middle. No, I had not changed my diet and I was exercises, plus I put all that weight on in less than 6 months, which had troubled the doctors. It took me a very-very long time to get rid of that extra flab. Photographs helped me earn the gracious title of the "white whale". But only a few people got away with it. Okay, enough wandering down memory lane.
Let's jump to the News Brief's:
A second news report was sent out on individually owned or small scale gun-maker/sales operations having severe problems with their banks. Credit and debit cards were no longer being processed which prevented all on-line transactions and a good share of the in-store sales. They were having to find new banking firms who would work with them and in the process, these Americans were feeling they were being discriminated against by the banks, who were now openly refusing to loan funds to anyone connected to the firearm industry. While some of the gun-makers feels this has to do with the tragic deaths resulting from shooting incidents across the nation, or feel this is being brought on by the Obama Administration working with political-left bank owners to stop Americans from possessing firearms. "Operation Choke Hold" brought about by the federal agencies under the orders of the Obama Administration, has caused a lot of problems, but numerous gun-owners are still prospering with the creation of their own banks via pro-gun bank owners. (NOTE: A thing to remember here - the FEDERAL RESERVE is NOT a bank owned by the United States Government. No, the Reserve began and continues to be operated by the 5 richest families in the United States. They came together right after the creation of the USA and began issuing loans to the government in multiple Billions of dollars. These families also own a large part of the U.S. and many of the largest companies. They are bigger than the Koch Brothers, but remain quietly in the background under the title of the Federal Reserve. They can sway where the country is moving and if they ever call their loans in, the country's economy would be crush. Still, oddly enough the majority of US citizens still think the Federal Reserve is the US Bank. If you do not believe me, read up on its history and the five families involved. One is Rockefeller.

France suspends sale of warships to Russia as President Putin fails to convince the French President of a change of heart, while he was in Paris concerning peace plan proposals for the Ukraine Crisis. On the even of the NATO Summit, General Dynamics lands a $5.8 Billion dollar deal with Britain for the order of nearly 600 armored fighting machines for the U.K. Army. Central Intelligence Agency has issued a new report on the numbers of Islamic State fighters. CIA says there are 2 to 3 more fighters than first thought, "Islamic State can must between 20,000 to 31,500 fighters across Iraq and Syria. ( Stay with me for a moment and please, remember I was only an enlisted man. But even 31,500 combatant makes for a well-enforced DIVISION-strength force. Why cannot the Armies of Iraq and Syria, with the coalition's help even, deal with a force this size without involving the United States, Canada, Australia and England, and any EU forces assisting? Why are WE still needed if these are the TRUE numbers? Unless, as I hve mentioned in the past, we are being drawn in...into a web of deceit. Think, just how many of our troops have been shot in the back by our "allies" walking patrol- from Iraq to Afghanistan. Similar things even happened in Korean Conflict and Vietnam due to bad guys and goods guys being of the same race and impossible to tell apart. Now what would happen if this sort of thing happened on a large scale. A pre-arranged signal could be given and a world of hurt suddenly brought down on our thousands of troops by multiple-millions of Muslims out to destroy the long hated "Devil". For you younger ones, remember the Star Wars movie where the Emperor sent out the signal to the clones to turn on the Jedi and all but for a few, wiped the Jedi Knights out. Our bases could be easily overrun because we share them with local troops-more than 90% Muslim. Lives would be lost and billions in war materials seized. Now I know nothing about the Muslim faith for those of those who have come to the United States. I do know there are many fenced in Muslim militant compounds under federal agency observation right here in the US, where gun fir is routinely heard from and its all private property. But for the Muslims in their own country, raised on hate for the American "Devil", I have read many detailed account of the Muslim blood oath taken to destroy us. They know our history and how we often become lax in our security. One reason, the United States hasn't been attacked since 1941 and then it was Hawaii and Alaska. We've never endured what the people of the Middle East have had to go through. Not since the Civil War have Americans in America probably slept with one eye open, unless it was in Old West Indian Country. So, where and when? Only a matter of time and with this new all-Muslim coalition aiding us, what better time to hit?)
New U.S. and E.U. sanction hit Russia's largest bank, a major Russian arms maker, and an arctic deep water and shale exploration by its biggest oil companies, to punish Moscow for the Ukraine Crisis. ( BUT, is President Obama not listening to his military and Intel advisers, who warn him of Putin's history as he of the old KGB. President Putin is a modern day Stalin, responsible for the death of over 20 million deaths and this doesn't count military deaths. He killed Jews and Gypsies and loved to execute political prisoners out of hand. Putin is loved by the average Russian citizen. What I am saying here is how this man will only be pushed so far before believe war is the better option, just as Japanese Warlords thought in 1938-40. You tighten the throat of a rattlesnake and it will spit its venom at you, so will Putin. Telling him he cannot do this or that and he sees his people being hurt, the same people who could rise up and forcibly remove him from his office as was done in 1917, he must react- even in a conventional way. Currently his military strength is capable of taking NATO, unless we result to a nuclear weapon. But once that first button is pushed, a seocnd and third...that's it! As to why Putin is holding off, you got me unless its has something to do with the deals made with China and now possibly the Muslim world. But keep watching or reading, world events are ever changing. )
Mount Slamet, a volcano, made its presence known with an eruption of some size on 9-12 in Indonesia. Ash was spewed up to 1 km into the skies; forcing the evacuation of more than 20,000 people who lived on the mountain's slope. ( Why do people live on the side of a dormant to active volcano?)

In a joint statement the SCO countries were adamant in any country's attempt to enhance its missile shield in an unbalanced manner would undermine global security and stability. "National security of one state should not be achieved to the detriment of the security of others." Though not mentioned by name , the declaration was seen as targeting the United States. This incident paved the way for the U.S. Government Intelligence gathering PRISM system. YAHOO says it will soon be releasing the 1,500 pages of once classified document showing its lengthy tussle with the government. ( Is this where we get to say, " I have met the enemy and he is us.) EBOLA scientists and disease experts are now fearing the chance, however still small, Ebola could mutate into an airborne virus spread through coughing and sneezing. Ebola is an RNA virus, meaning every time it copes itself- it mutates. But most mutates mean nothing, YET some could change into what the World Health Organization fears most- an airborne virus. Currently, with numbers increasing steadily every day and scientist realizing not all of the cases or deaths are being reported, the cases being reported show 4,786 infected with Ebola and 2,400 plus resulting in death. As the virus spreads, the likelihood of an airborne virus increases and WHO now reports Ebola is spreading at a faster rate. Scientists now predict more than 100,000 Ebola cases for the end of 2014. ( The number of estimated cases for the end of year carried in very few papers. United States planning on a "surge" of Federal Health Care Workers to be sent to West Africa. I sure hope they will provide adequate survivor gear or we could lose a good share of that "surge". Now, could this be the disease foretold of in the Book of Revelations? Only time will tell, as other disease pandemics have come and gone before this. Its when the news stops reporting on it that can make one nervous.)

President Obama in trouble with U.S. Senate Democrats with his plan to arm Syrian rebels. ( President Obama continues to feed into the growing rumor he is actually a Muslim plant. The whole wedding ring thing really hurt him and he no longer seems to care. but arming the rebels is like handing over firearms and advanced weaponry to the Islamic State. Early on, while fighting al-Assad, these Syrian rebels were the militants that now make up to Islamic State. Did President Obama forget this, apparently his trusted senators haven't. Hard to believe I am say something nice about some US Democrat Senators.)
U.S. Army to address the issue over lack of Black officers in main combat units. (Maybe then the Republican and Democratic parties can address why 93% of governors are White. Why the low figure of racial minorities in US and even Statewide political leadership. Our we whites still trying to keep them minorities back on the city streets, down on the farms and wandering the back allies, when there could be many great civic leaders out there. We preach equality, but where do we provide the evidence for the rest of the world to see. Nobel Prize winners could be sleeping in a cardboard box under some bridge; the man or women who could find the cure for cancer might be sweeping out an office building to provide for his family, because even with his college degree in chemistry this is the best job he could find. This isn't the 1950's or the 60's. This is 2014, when color should mean a history of a race and not how we live our future lives. We all began as one color and we still all bleed red. But we allow hate and fear to control us and as a result, we live in hate and fear. We live in a world of warfare, of disease and as parent and grandparents we wonder if it will survive for our children. We promised to make it better, to strive and improve on what our parents had accomplished...what happened. How many people have been hurt or even killed because a frightened or stressed out police officer may or may not have shot down an unarmed man, who may or may not have been surrendering. I wasn't there, thousands more were not there and from my experience as a police officer I know witnesses will always see different things. This is why we have courts and juries. In a hot bed case like this, with some many conflicting accounts and the news trying to blow up a statewide riots to sell news time and papers, our current day propaganda machine. This case should go to trial. But more importantly, the people...Americans, should wait and allow the jury to hear all the evidence and make their decision. Not destroy the fabric in which this company is made of because of hate and fear. Far too-too many soldiers and civilians of all races have died or shed blood to bring this land its continual freedom. It would be such a waste to lose it now.)
Part # 4 Legend of Blue Eyes:
Over my next couple of weekends off, I borrowed a friend's dirt-bike to explore the south-side of Edwards. During the first weekend, which for me was actually a weekday, I'd been out during a really hot day, checking out parts of the parts of the dry lake-bed I had not seen yet. The Bike was a 50cc Yamaha Enduro, so it was good for highway travel also. I had once owned a 125cc Yamaha Enduro and was fond of the power it could produce. This larger one was a terror on wheels and I knew I'd be shopping for a new bike really soon.
I'd been down on the lake bed, which always gave me the impression I was back in prehistoric times as everything just looked...dead, not counting the sky, the land had at best two colors- sand and hard packed sand, when a braked hard and threw the bike into a skid and nearly bending my left knees into an impossible position. There, on my left, sitting all by itself, was a NASA aircraft, hooked up to a portable generator. The canopy was open and the the generator was operating, but there just wasn't anyone around. This aircraft was orange in color, with NASA markings and it resembled a futuristic version of the X-15 rocket ship. Well, I continued to look around and rub my knee, but I knew better than to approach the plane. With NASA there could be snipers stationed all around waiting for some idiot to come by and decide to explore. Believe me, I so often thought I was on a showing of Twilight Zone at Edwards or the older One Step-Beyond. ( How many of you remember that one?)
I wanted to cover my backside and yelled out, "I'm Sgt. Casselman, 6510th Security Police Squadron and I am now leaving!" I then took off and built my speed up to 90 mph as a raced across the lake bed and called it a day. Later, I briefed my Flight Chief on the incident and he told me to forget it and he really meant it. Still, I always wondered if the noise of my motorcycle approaching sent the ground crew into hiding, or were they all back on main base having coffee. Over the years I've looked for photos of advanced NASA aircraft to see if I could find this one and never did. Closest I came was from the X-series General Chuck Yaeger had flown at Edwards for NASA. But mine was such prettier and much more advanced. Knowing what I know now about aircraft and the B-2 bomber, I would say it was a Stealth aircraft. But maybe it was simply a movie prop and I ended up on some NASA training film on how not to leave your aircraft sitting around for any dummy to find.
After that second weekend and a trip up to the mountains on a friend's 900cc Kawaski, I felt as if I was handling the Cadillac of motorcycles, I came back to work and of course, I was assigned to the desk. I voiced my concern to TSgt Harrel of how this confinement to the desk could cause serious damage to my observation skills, needed by a proficient patrolman, to which he laughed and thought I had reached a new level in reasoning why he should release me to patrol and then pointed back to the desk. I tried and then went to work on finding a better excuse.
That very next night, he thought he would help with my observational skill problem and released me to patrol. Flight line Patrol. Oh, he had a great laugh going and so did most of C Flight- at my expense of course. But I had a plan. I knew how our flight line was set up as far as allowable and acceptable violations of safety and security regulations. After all, we were smack in the middle of the desert and the SPs and the Tower had most everything under observation. I was going to have fun.
In the first two hours I had "seized" 12-large tool boxes filled with hundreds of dollars worth of tools that were left on the flight line, 8- radio phones left in unlocked vehicles and one very large aircraft tail stand, left on the tarmac and just ripe for theft. The thing was like 16-feet long. Now an incident report DD Form 1569, had to be typed up for each article and a blotter entry for each article and this was seen by the Base Commander. The Avionics Squadron Commander would have to respond to the Base Commander and explain why all of this equipment was left loose, especially the tail stand, on the runway tarmac ( aircraft parking area). What I had forgot about was how the Avionics's Squadron Commander would be having a little chat with my Colonel and it would run down hill from there. I was not too well appreciated for the next 72-hours and TSgt Harrel wouldn't talk to me. He simply pointed at the desk each night and things were kept official between us. I was a sergeant and he set at the side of God Almighty. So much for my little joke. A few months later though, the Colonel came up to me, smiled, shook my hand and said, "Good job, about time someone put Avionics back in the Air Force." Over the next couple of years we got to know one another pretty well. He was a confirmed bachelor that slept on a cot in his office most of the time. Once we became friends, as much as a sergeant and a colonel could be, he spent a lot of mid-shifts sitting on the desk with me and we talked about Vietnam. He was a full colonel and was a former F-4 fighter pilot with 7-flight tours over Vietnam. He was awarded more medals than any man I had known, except for the Medal of Honor. He had also won wing from several nations and wow, he could tell some stories. But he was also interested in my war stories, especially of how it was at the end in 1973. It was terrible. Another time.
A year later, I would be recognized as the Squadron's Primary Desk Sergeant for alerts and major exercises. Not the chore I wanted, but I did enjoy being recognized for how I handled a job I never thought I could ever conquer. I now typing up to 60 words per minute, but in my style and there were mistakes- lots of them. But that didn't seem to matter, I just had this knack to know where all my people were, without having to do a flight-wide security check. We were getting a new squadron commander and I was real sad to see the Colonel go and this new "by-the-book" Lt.Colonel come in from overseas. We ended up getting along when I was able to lead SPs and County Sheriffs into some big drug drops on the lake-beds. My knowledge on the lake beds would pay-off. This would also eventually lead to my new job as Patrol/Narcotic Dog Handler- the first for Edwards.
But, back to earlier times, we had gone through a week of shifts without any additional encounters or sightings of this mysterious Blue Eyes and I hoped the whole thing was over. We had no proof of the events, everything was seized and only our classified memories existed.
I was of course on the Desk and I had a newly promoted sergeant working with me as Assistant Desk Sergeant. His stripes still shined, having not gone through a washer yet. Now when I made sergeant I was one of those who rank of Airman 1st Class was frozen by then President Nixon. The freeze lasted 6 months and none of us were happy about it. But the freeze lifted and like 90 of us in the squadron made sergeant the same day. I can still recall the party and how drunk everyone was. There was over 300 troops at that party, drinking mostly homemade moonshine- the Southeast Asia version. Thinking back I was always surprised a lot of us didn't die from alcohol poisoning.
But that night at the desk I was cold sober. I came home with a pretty good drinking problem and would later got to AA, but didn't stay with it. It was the God who took care of it for me and it was a frightening experience. But since coming home I made myself a promise never to drink on the day I worked. Now there were a few surprise alerts I didn't smell so great, but we were never held responsible for the surprise one. Not until I was made a member of the Security Police Element Contingencies Team, ( Air Force SP Swat Team). I had to back off some on the booze. I was the sniper for awhile, but then my eyes failed and I became the M-60 machine-gunner. I had gained a lot of experience with the M-60 in Asia.
I was back on good terms with TSgt Harrel and leaving my assistant in the Desk, I was talking to him about holding a robbery exercise tomorrow night. We hadn't had one for several months. The troops enjoyed this as it was one of the rare times an SP could pull his Smith & Wesson .38 pistol, held up in the air with shooter arm bent in an L position. I found it pretty stupid but it was the orders of the day. 90% of our guys and girls had attended the SP School in Texas, but I hadn't. Mine was on the job. Seemed like my who service career was like that. My orders for Vietnam gave me 24-hours to clear Whiteman AFB, Missouri. Things like this continued.
I had a cup of hot coffee approaching my lips when over the radio came the "never-wanted-to-hear" call of "10-13...10-13!10-13" This is a call for help, an SP needs emergency back-up. The caller then went silent and the radio cleared. I thought I recognized the caller's voice. Yet, I had to make sure. This call was only to be used for dire emergencies, not when you needed help in changing a tire. But it had been used for just such a reason and I had 5-patrols responding a new young airman in need of assistance with a tire. He was nearly left buried in the desert by his fellow SPs and still had to face TSgt Harrel's one-time only fatherly lecture idiocy.
Still, as I rushed to the desk to take over the radio, I knew I recognized the voice. It was 1-Adam Justice. 1-Adam 12 was a popular cop TV show and Ken Justice, a fellow sergeant who had returned home from a tour in Korea, with a Korean wife, had picked up the nickname 1-Adam by issuing a ticket to some civilian for 1-mile over the speed limit. Tonight, Ken Justice was assigned to the Rocket Site and for the life of me I couldn't figure out what trouble he could have found requiring a call of "10-13". I immediately advised all patrols to stay off the radio and stand-by. I knew they had heard the 10-13 and were waiting to see who was going to be dispatched to the rocket site. I then gave him a radio call to which he didn't answer after four attempts. Then I received a telephone call from the rocket site gate, where an Airman 1st Class was working and he was rattled.
"Sergeant, I've just heard 6 shots of in the distance, over by the rocket stands I think. Do you want me to lock the shack and respond on foot. I told him no. I then advised the flight chief of what was just reported from the rocket site gate guard and resumed my radio duties. "Attention, report of shots fired at Rocket Site. Patrol# 7-All-Base Patrol respond Code 3 via the lake-bed access. I'll call the tower and get you cleared. Standby on the tarmac until you get clearance from me or tower flashes you green light." I then dispatched the south-base patrol via the highway and allowed Code 3 until reaching Lake bed access junction and then going to code two to back-up Patrol # 7. TSgt Harrel, grabbed my Assistant Desk Sergeant and walked over to the Armory Door, waiting for me to call in there to advise him it was TSgt Harrel and to open up for a 10-13 call. "He needs a shotgun, load and 12-extra rounds."
I had three patrols moving and the control tower had granted permission, even flashing the green flood light down at my patrol. Crossing the lake bed was a direct shot to the Rocket Site and it reduced travel time by nearly 12-15 minutes. The Flight Chief also wanted Lake Bed access and I took care of that, too. Thankfully we didn't have any test aircraft flying tonight, nor was North Base or NASA messing around with their toys.
"Unless it's an emergency, all units not responding to the rocket site will stay off the radio until further advised. I only want to hear emergency calls. No traffic stops unless serious ( that would cover drunk drivers and such). I then stayed off the radio to clear it and pulled down my emergency checklist for serious incidents. I wanted it on my desk, in the event something really went down and Ken, our 1-Adam Justice, wasn't shooting at shadows. Right then, I froze, hands in place over my keyboard and my mind shot back to the previous incident of Blue Eyes. I wonder, could this be....
Nearly thirty minutes later, the Flight Chief called in to report that had found the patrol vehicle, a 1968 Chevrolet P/U, painted Air Force blue with United State Air Force painted on the hood, with a series of numbers used for vehicle inventory. Exactly 8 minutes and 22-seconds later they called to report they had found Ken, unconscious, below one of the stands and requested an ambulance Code-2. TSgt Harrel then stated over the radio he would make contact with me in a few minutes from the site's gate shack.
Two of the area patrols had come in for coffee and we standing-by the Desk, waiting to hear what had happened.
A moment or two later the phone rang from the direct line to the gate shack. I answered it and the first things out of his mouth were, "Our friend is back." I felt an increase in my heart rate and waited for more.
"Ken's conscious, but he is really out of it. Frightened would be the best world for it. All I've got so far from him, among his gibberish, is seeing a large shadow in the moonlight moving around the rocket stands. He described it as 'gigantic'. He drove toward it, thinking it was simply shadows...I'm not sure I got that right. But his truck died for no reason and his headlights went off. He climbed out of the truck, with flashlight, that we haven't found yet and popped his hood to see what had happened. Then he heard strange noises. He harped on the strange part several time. He may have a concussion, but he only fell on the sand and I couldn't find any bumps or abrasions. Still his gun laid a few feet away from him and it was empty. We searched and so far we couldn't find find any holes in anything to cover shooting practice and no extra ammo on him besides his basic issue. We also searched his briefcase and there as no extra ammo."
Occasionally, the guys on Rocket Site duty get stupid and they bring along extra ammo to shoot-off at night, which is a violation that could get them busted. Two idiots took Polaroid photos of themselves practices fast draw and even pointing their guns at each other. But the old Polaroid prints produced that shadowy negative you threw away. They did throw it away, right into the gate shack trash can. It did not go well for the former Air Force SPs.
"Ken said this thing was going away from him and then suddenly, it reversed its course and was heading right at him. He rambled-on about it being taller than Goliath, and now he saw the Blue Eyes everyone else had talked about. He thought the whole thing was a bunch of rubbish, not now. He ordered it to stop and when it didn't, he called in the '10-13'. Only then did he pull his revolver. He thought he had only fired it once and doesn't remember anything after that."
I asked about foot prints and I was told there were lots of the familiar prints, but TSgt Harrel was a realist and he wasn't going to put a lot of work into this only to have everything seized. "You give the on-duty SP investigator a call ad then follow your Serious Incident Check-list. A weapons was emptied, a SP was rendered...knocked out. We'll let the big guys play their games."
So, I followed the checklist and the SP Investigator was my first call, followed by the Base Command Post. Before I was finished I had told of the events nearly a dozen times. Our squadron commander was in the flight chief's office and two of the OSI Agents had already gone to the scene and returned. I had been ordered to have Ken's truck brought down, which I did and sent another two people up there, because the gate guard was needed also.
We hadn't bothered with photos, having turned everything over Investigations and OSI, and once again I typed out a second blotter to show zero activity during that time period.
Justice was transported to the Base Hospital by ambulance and held over night for observation. We did finally learn from our young Airman at the gate of how he had heard
one shot and second later heard 5-shots in quick succession. Since Ken recalled firing once, I began to wonder if this thing had taken the revolver away from Ken and fire the other 5 rounds off to protect itself or familiarize himself with the weapon. Once again the old neck hair shot up.
Now Ken was an average shot with an M-16, but he shot expert with his revolver. Yet there was no sign of blood at the scene.
Even after being released from the hospital, 1-Adam Justice behaved oddly and decided he needed a 15-day leave and left the base with his wife. He felt he needed to get far-far away and hopefully the strange nightmares of the radiating blue eyes would go away.
.
Stay tuned for the final part of the Legend of Blue Eyes
Everyone have a very nice weekend and if you're not a member of a denomination or a particular church, search one out. Christian fellowship is extremely important in helping us walk the walk and talk the talk. Others sharing can often help us and our word can be used by the Father to help others. Believe it or not, we do not honor God by staying home in Bed. I've tried it and it really dsn't work. God Bless. BILL
