I woke up this morning and felt the first chill of fall now upon us. I thought about tossing some wood into the wood stove, but put it off for now - I actually couldn't get to it from all the summer storage. I nearly expected a patch of frost, here or there, but late August is really too early for ice to be forming. Still, I am reminded of how we were once nailed by 15 inches of snow on September 15th, which showed me of how fickle the Alaskan weather can be. The snowstorm crushed my 3-room tent I was airing out. There has been snow in July and a winter where we received only 6 inches of snow for the whole winter. But, hey, the lawn got mowed today by two cheery volunteers and now I only need to send them out with scissors to trim the rock flower beds. Mona and I keep threatening to get a couple goats to keep the yard trimmed.
Back to Fall, the air here in the valley always has this great crisp odor blowing through it when this first cold hits, as you can actually smell the blue ice off the glaciers from nearby. We do have a lot of them, but in the 14-years of living here, we have noticed their reduction in size. Near Seward we have Exit Glacier and you could walk right up to, but a few people were killed as the glacier calved and the US Park Service stopped everyone from approaching the ice. Still, they have posted signs of where the glacier has fallen back for each decade. This massive chunk of old ice is receding faster every decade until now, its right up against the mountainside. The ice is a good example of climate change, but I do not believe its global warning. No, I believe its part of an event that hits the earth every.....many years. Some say 5,000 and others say more and scientists believe such events precede an ice age. Now I'm no scientist, but I am a believer and I feel the Lord is in control. What He desires for us and this Earth He created will come to be and there is nothing all the military might of the planet can do to stop it. Okay, enough on this and on to another topic.

The Veterans Administration's auditor hired previously, who accredited VA hospitals - where multiple patients died from delays in care- and in some cases named them as "top performers" has once again been chosen to complete a new review of those same hospitals. ( Maybe we should have the VA officials be required to have all their health needs and hospital care accomplished at these same VA hospitals. Possibly even the Senate and Congress members, who are failing to stay on top of this and all the promises they have made to the veterans).
US Department of Agriculture (USDA) - more than 5 years after the "great" stimulus package was signed into law, a new audit reveals the USDA spent nearly $5 Billion in questionable costs and funded programs that were "inherently not shovel ready", as required in the package.
The "infamous" Ku Klux Klan has stepped up its recruitment program, leaving their fliers on driveways across the country, from New York to Texas. Now they're attaching candy to the fliers. Most of the US sees the Klan as one of the country's oldest hate groups- beginning with the end of the Civil War. They primarily go after African-Americans, but also attack Jews, immigrants, gay & lesbians and even Catholics, who have all found the dreaded burning crosses in their front yards. There has also been numerous reports of the Klan working in conjunction with Nazi groups.
Fairbanks, Alaska- Earthquakes jolt Interior Alaska; 5.07 quake hit Minto area west of Fairbanks, followed 5 hours later by a 3.49 quake and the third quake in the 4.19 magnitude 4 hours later north of Fairbanks.
From a seized Islamic State laptop computer intelligence officers learned the Islamic State is in the process of developing biological weapons. A 19-page document contained information for the weaponizing of the bubonic plague- once known as the black death during the dark ages. The computer also carried a ruling from a Saudi Muslim Cleric justifying the use of such weapons of mass destruction. "If Muslims cannot defeat the Unbelievers in a different way, it is permissible to use weapons of mass destruction ... even if it kills all of them and wipes them and their descendants off the face of the earth."
Pakistan's capital- following 17-days of peaceful protesting, involving a major sit in by thousands of people desiring the ousting of the current Prime Minister, violence erupted. 8 people were reported killed and 450 people injured as protestors clashed with police.
Though part of the proposed long-term treaty agreement being made in Egypt, between Israel and Palestine, Hamas now refuses the demand to disarm.
Israel also claims 1,000 acres of the West Bank, which could herald significant Israeli construction in that area and defying Palestinian demands for a halt in settlement expansion.
Russia's President Putin now seeks Russian statehood for Eastern Ukraine.
New major eruption in Iceland, causes the authorities to issue a "Red Alert" for their largest volcano, which lies nearby.
In 2013, China sent 235,000 Chinese citizens to the United States to attend US Colleges. (Makes one wonder, how many of these student could be part of sleeper cells, to be activated in the event of war between US & China? This is far too many students for all of our intelligence agencies to keep an eye on. )
Another small 3.4 earthquake hits California, this one in the Sacramento area and not an aftershock to the Napa Valley quakes.
Liberia- Authorities have lifted the massive quarantine around the slum neighborhood known as 5 Points in Monrovia. Too many people have escaped by bribing soldiers or police. One boy was killed during a confrontation with soldiers & police. Prices for food and goods have doubled, causing conditions in the slum to worsen. Health officials had warned the authorities a massive quarantine would become unmanageable and could exacerbate the spread of the virus. It is not known how many carriers of the virus have escaped, or where the missing 20 Ebola patients could be.
I follow the news concerning different areas and various events or incidents to see how close I come with my apocalyptic tale- "A Coming Storm". As I've said, 4 such events have come about and now I am watching the extent of the riots. In my book the riots in the Southeast United States help in bringing about the downfall of the US and setting up events leading to Russia's attack on the European Union- which I change to an Empire with the coming of the Antichrist. He will become the Emperor of the New Empire. Now it seems everything has settled down in Ferguson, but the deep South never blew up, which is unusual and now we have the Klan making a major move and Nazism suffering growing pains. Still, we will have the decision by the Ferguson area Grand Jury. If the officer is not going to trial, this could light a fuze, but I hope it doesn't. And if he goes to trial and is found not guilty, that could become a major problem. Now I do not know if the timing is right, I could be decades off or around the corner. Riots only injure and kills people, plus destroy millions in damaged goods or structures. Insurance companies have big payouts and all of our premiums shoot right up. But in the End of Days, such things will happen.
No, one should watch for the Two Witnesses, for scripture says they will be in Jerusalem, at the Wall for nearly 3.5 years. Now when they show up and the whole world will know of it, its time to begin counting down the days. 98% of this book deals with what happens after World War III comes about.
When I began writing this story 15 years ago I involved nearly 100 sub-stories. This is a strong character driven tale, in fact all my books are written in such a way. You know who the bad guys are and who you can shout for to win out. My heroes have integrity, honesty and a drive to win out over evil. I gained this by reading a lot of Edgar Rice Burroughs' Martian "Warlord of Mars" series. I also spent a lot of time reading Louie L'Amour. Oddly enough, whenever I received a rejection letter and thought about giving up, my wife would remind me of the 350 rejection slips L'Amour received before his first magazine story was printed. I believe he is still one of the world's most prolific writers with some 300-350 books out there.
Please, if you are a writer or a creator in any art, don't give up. It took me 15 years to find a publisher who would take a chance on me. For some people self-publishing is a great way to go. Alaska Dreams Publisher does both. Send your work in and let him look at it, but just be careful with finding agents. Finding a good one is difficult. When looking for one, check out their rating and why they might be listed as one of the 10 worst agents in the business. These people are eager for your work, simply to collect your fee and they do a lousy job representing you. But they have good ones and you should look them up in the annual agent/publisher/distributor guide.
