Good Morning-good morning! Spring is at hand, as most of our driveway is now dirt and no longer covered in ice. Yesterday was a beautiful day for our valley with clear blue skies and our local temperatures reaching 40 degrees. Nice to be in Alaska on such days and have the freedoms our country offers us. The house is quiet, all the animals are asleep and the floor heater at my feet is working. Having frostbit them several times the warmth feels good.

SNOW! For 3-days we've been hit pretty hard by an early spring snowstorm, dumping about 3 FEET on our place. We suffered a 19-hour power outage, but thankfully it wasn't sub-zero temperatures outside.
Another 3 a.m. morning. Still getting used to 3-4 hours of sleep and waking up alert. I often move into my office so I won't wake up my dear wife, but I've noticed she too gets up at night a couple times. Seems that as we enter into our senior years sleep just isn't as important as we once thought it was.
An early good afternoon to all of you and I hope you are having a great day. We've had snow off and on for a couple days, but not much in the way of accumulation. When we drove to Seward, which is on the coast and 28.5 miles from the house, it was raining. March is like that up here.
A very good morning to all: Yesterday, we were stunned to see the midday temperature rise above 40 degrees and it was indeed a very pleasant day to be sure. We were expecting a week of snow, but that must've gone elsewhere and we are seeing all the signs of an early spring. Now that I've said that, we'll probably get 4 feet of snow and sub-zero temps. But, even at 40 degrees we're still having to burn wood throughout the day and most of the night.
Yes, it is the first of March and winter is still with us as this mornings temps again dipped to zero degrees, but these temperatures will rise as the sunlight makes an appearance. By the looks of things it is going to be another beautiful day and early Spring is often like that....not much snow and the early summer rains have not begun. I must say that we've had a few summers where it seemed like non-stop rains and I felt like I was back in Southeast Asia during the monsoon season.
Woke up to another clear, but cold day here in Moose Pass. If I was a photographer, I would be out taking shots of the nearby mountain peaks. For those of you outside Alaska, it is sort of like being surrounded by Disneyland's Matterhorn. Temperatures staying in the zero to plus ten range still, but in another month we will be seeing mostly above freezing temps as the first of April often brings us a beautiful burst of the arriving Spring.
Good Morning to All: Seems that it's another early morning for the old man. Three hours of sleep and I'm wide awake and I'm finding I do some of my best writing on these early mornings and then enjoy a a nice nap.
Yesterday was a really beautiful day, with the temperature reaching 34 degrees, the skies so blue it made the snowy peaks just glow with radiance...and no wind. With a need for fresh air I set on the porch for a bit, then realized 34 degrees was still a bit chilly and came back inside.
The Blizzard that hit early yesterday morning hot so fast and so hard I thought we were sure to lose a window or two. I woke up to what I thought was a large tractor-trailer rig coming down the highway and then the first heavy gust struck the house. This was a bit unusual for us, but here in Moose Pass we get winds from three mountain passes; two from the north and one from the south.
Good morning: Yes, it is another very early morning as I am up at 2:30 a.m., wide awake and ready to write. Sky appears clear so the snow must be over and temperature is dropping back down to zero degrees. I believe we got about 2 inches, but the winds hit and it made for some dangerous driving.
Happy Valentine's Day to one and all. I woke up this morning to clear skies as I viewed the shimmering stars in the sky. Now it is daylight and my valley here is as beautiful as ever. As you have all learned over the years, I find Alaska the most wonderful place to live. But, there have been times when freezing in below zero temperatures I doubted my sanity in staying here.
Good morning to all: 20-degrees on the plus side of zero today, with clear skies. Mountains are quite majestic in appearance with the snow cascading down their hillsides. The spruce are currently almost all uncovered, adding a lot of green the mountain sides. When a good dumping of snow occurs, then everything is simply white, until the winds arrive and off comes the snow from the trees.
A very good morning to all on this coolish February morning. I hope to think our winter is going by rapidly, but sometimes I'm just not so sure. The best thing about winter is my view of the majestic mountains that surround our valley, the stillness, no mosquitoes and the number of tourists grow smaller. Oh, usually I enjoy tourists, their many questions about Alaska, watching their delight in being here. It's just the traffic they bring with them that passes by my home at all hours. But this is mainly due to Alaska's lack of highways.
Greetings: Another fine and beautiful morning here in the metropolis of Moose Pass, population roughly 260 people. It is early, still very dark outside and temperature is cold. But, this is a great little town to live in, with a lot of good people living out their lives and most of them are ready to be quite helpful if needed, plus almost no busy-buddies.
Another good morning to all of you, and yes we had a wee bit of snow yesterday. February is often a good snow month and right now the trees are covered over, making for a delightful wintery scene. The house is very quiet with only the pecking of my keyboard being the sole noise- that and the mini refrigerator next to my desk humming away.
It's 5:32 a.m. and thought I'd take a break from writing and talk to all you nice people. I sleep less and less, part of becoming elderly I guess, but it does give me time to write when the house is quiet. I just wrapped up Chapter 12 in my current project- "The Final Challenge"- the conclusion to my first novel - "A Coming Storm".
I don't know if it might be the same for you, but I often have a hard time remembering we are in a new year- actually 2019. Anyway, Howdy to all of you folks from us here in Moose Pass. We've had so much rain lately that so much of our snow has turned to ice- making for some mighty slippery roads...and our driveway.
Good Morning: It is a little grey outside this morning, temperature running between zero and plus 5, and we expect some snowfall soon. House is warm though, as John Alex and Patrick/Canaan work hard to keep the wood supplied in both houses. For those of you who might not recall, Patrick and Canaan bought a 32 foot by 12 foot put together house and placed it out in front of our house. We run electricity to it from our place and I keep threatening to unplug the electrical cord.... but, I won't. There's just enough room in there for them and their two children and a cat. I've lived in two similar-sized domiciles in the past, makes for a cozy spot in cold winters.
Sixth day of 2019 and oddly enough, had my mom still be alive she would turn 100 years old this year, but she went to join the Lord at 91 yrs. This will be Mona and I's 39th year of being married, I'll turn 66 yrs old and she'll turn 61, This will also be our 17th year of owning our home. Plus, I graduated from high school 48 yrs ago. That's it, just some reference points, you can all do your own. You might find it interesting.
Hello to All. This will be my last Journal for 2018, just thought I'd share that with you. I woke up this morning to yet another minor earthquake- maybe 2.0 range and it hit about 5:15 a.m., then a second rumbler hit at 5:19 and I'd say it was either a 2.5 or possibly a 3. Nothing to worry about, but we are still looking out at Mt. ReDoubt, our closest volcano, as well as two others we can see on clear days.
Sure hard to believe we only have 9-days until Christmas. Canaan is just now putting up our Christmas tree, hardly been anyone in the mood, I guess. Would appreciate any prayers you can send our way, house seems to be fighting with bouts of depression. But, now the snow has returned and that should have quite an effect on our moods. We've had between 8-12 inches of snow and it is snowing right now. Chad, who plows for us came by last night and did a dynamite job, but we've been hit pretty good today so I expect him again.
A Shake, Rattle and Roll, with a bit of Rumbling added in. Yes, this is my post earthquake journal and by the way, today is the 77th Anniversary since the bombing of Pearl Harbor by the Japanese. For those of you who have not been to Pearl Harbor and experienced the tranquility of the Arizona Memorial, I suggest you do so.
Hello Everyone: At 5:50 p.m., it is pitch dark outside here, with temperatures in the high teens to low twenties. Clear skies, so no snow for last couple of days.
A great hello to everyone. Weather had us due more rain and snow, but the last two days have had beautiful clear skies and another chance to admire our majestic mountains draped in white. Temps running between plus 20 and 40 degrees.
