It's hard to believe that I have not updated this blog in two years! I have lots of news to share about things that have happened since my last blog entry.
In the last year I have had the opportunity to have several book signings during local craft shows. It has given me great joy to talk to people about my first book, Inspiring Special Needs Stories.
My book is also now on display at the Wildflower Bookshop in downtown Grand Rapids, and will soon be sold at the Remer Craft Store.
My second book, called "It's a God Thing: Stories that Inspire" is just weeks from coming out. It's in the final editing stages.
My crafting team, consisting of myself and friends Karen, Gina and Dolores, have named our team "The Rockin' Grannies", as we sit in rocking chairs at our craft shows, just like Grannie Clampett on the Beverly Hillbillies.
In January 2023, I had to say good bye to my beloved Lexi as her health declined rapidly and it was clear that she wasn't enjoying life. She had become aggressive and I was afraid she would bite someone. I had her cremated, and she has a prominent place on my hutch. And a permanent place in my heart.
In March 2023, I brought home a 7 week old Shitese...3/4 Shih Tzu, 1/4 Maltese. I named her Gracie Ruth. She is feisty, sassy, loving, affectionate, and makes me laugh every day. She could never replace my Lexi, but she fills the void that Lexi left. She is the mascot of our craft team and attends all the craft shows with us. I will post pictures in my next update.
In December 2022, I had what I thought was a cold, but then tested positive for covid for like the third time. At this time, I developed a runny nose. And after my bout with covid, the runny nose persisted. It ran constantly. For several months, my Dr. tried different things to cure it, but nothing worked. So she sent me to an ENT specialist in Virginia. I was prescribed a nose spray to try for a month, but it didn't help at all.
So the ENT ordered labs, and I was diagnosed with Beta 2 Transferrin, which is brain fluid that leaks thru other bodily fluids, such as ears and nose. I was referred to the U of M. After a consultation in Sept 2024, and a CT scan without and with contrast in Oct, surgery was scheduled for Dec 8th, a year after the problem began.
The surgery was a success, and my surgeon was pleased with my healing. I had spent four days at the U of M, and the staff there were amazing!
2024 has been a much healthier year! I look forward this year to working on more projects, and meeting new people along my journey of writing.
Until next time,
Rena
