appy Tuesday! Rain has finally come to our valley and it appears the last of our smoke from the Swan Lake Fire has left us. Thank you, Lord! Mona has been very sick for the last week, but her fever broke finally and she is now working on getting her strength back. I started to get the bug, but all the medicines and vitamins I take seem to help out. All I got was the congestion and cough, but now on the mend. Patrick, Canaan's husband has flown south for his job in Oregon.
He has been promoted to a supervisory role and that's really nice. Canaan also getting a new job in Soldotna, so they hope to be moving soon. If all goes well, Our Daughter Elizabeth and her boyfriend, Chris, will be moving over here with their reconditioned 29-passenger school bus, transformed into an RV. Elizabeth hopes to transform Patrick and Canaan's little house into a Bead Store. She had operated a bead store in Soldotna. Chris will probably do mechanic work as he is a pretty good tool man.
I forwarded to you a letter from Sally, Mona's older sister, concerning Leo's leg surgery. He and she can really use all the prayers we can muster. I'll gladly forward prayer needs on if you send them by e-mail. I do not do Twitter or Facebook, sorry. But I can get the word out to over 60-people.
Tomorrow is Social Security pay day, so we plan on visiting Seward. We're out of sugar, amazing how much sugar this household goes through. Everyone has a sweet tooth and I use it for my morning tea.
I've been keeping up on Congress getting ready to vote on a federal minimum pay hike to $15 an hour. There is a lot of concern about this big hike. I know for a lot of people it will mean having a bit more food in their cupboards , maybe a better place to live. But some are concerned with all the jobs that will be lost as Mom & Pop operations and small businesses will be laying a lot of people off because they can't afford to pay that out. There is also a concern that the big stores will jump their prices up so they can pay their employees and still make a profit. One prediction was for a loss of over 250,000 jobs. But, I'm not sure how they predict that number. I remember my first real job paid my $1.15 an hour and I could buy more back then compared to what $9 an hour can buy now. Hostess cupcakes were 13-cents a package and now they cost $2.49 and they're smaller now. Hershey bars were larger back then and cost 10-cents. Now they cost $1.99 here in Alaska. Bread was 25 cents a loaf and milk was 40-cents or even less. I paid 19-cents for a gallon of gas back in 1971 and bought a brand new Chevy Vega for $1800. As minimum wages went up, so did the prices of course. When I went into the service I was paid $168 a month, but a big pay raise came in July 1973 and we jumped to $365 a month for a sergeant. I also paid $85 a month to rent my trailer, 12'x 40' in size in 1971. I worked half of that off by being the trailer park's lifeguard during the summer months. Of course to listen to my mom who grew up during the depression of the 30's, we were all rich by the time I cam around. Back then, when they were living in Morro Bay and she couldn't find a job- in her late 20s, they didn't eat unless my oldest brother caught fish for their dinner. He was known in Morro Bay as the "Little Fisherman". Then World War II came and the factory jobs all opened up in the defense plants.
Book Report: I have finished my first draft of "Homeland Security Part # 2" and now going back through it for my first editing. I go through it twice and will then hand it off for Ava to edit. Rob, my Publisher, announced that Part #1 is about to be released. Part # 1 leads up to just before the Battle for Eielson AFB, Alaska occurs and Part # 2 covers the attack and afterwards. Once the federal authorities learn of the existence of a former Soviet A-Bomb being in the rogue militia's possession, they now grow concerned the Soviets and possibly tied in with the Chinese are planning an invasion of Alaska. If the nuke explodes on Eielson, it will sincerely disable Alaskan Air Command from protecting America's northern most state.
Fact: China assisted Russia in building a massive oil pipeline from China into the Russian oil fields. I use this information in my books "A Coming Storm" and its sequel, "The Finale Challenge".. Now its being reported in the news that the European Union and China plan to build a 1250 mile road between Europe and China. This road would allow China's mobile army to march into Europe if they decided to do so. Something that should be considered, beyond just commerce. China's ability to lift more than a regiment of troops at one time is extremely limited because of their lack of air transports and very hard to ship their armor that way. But roads, China has already proven their abilities to find over land in World War II when they battled the invading Japanese. Something to consider.

That's it for today. Except to say that Scientists still unsure why so many earthquakes are hitting Southern California and the Eastern Oriental countries. But many feel a major 8 point quake or worse is due to hit California.. I've seen a lot of photos of the big quake that hit Alaska in the 60s on Good Friday and I was knocked out of my bed when that 7 point something hit San Fernando in 1971. We were over 30 miles from the epicenter. Here in the mountains of Moose Pass we go through a lot of small quakes and the occasional medium 6 to 7 point quake. But I would sure hate to go through a major quake like an 8-pointer or worse. This old house just may not stand up to it. Went through one quake that hit us here in the evening and came on like a train locomotive. You could actually hear it coming and the house rattled pretty good as it passed beneanth us. Good to have emergency supplies put away to be prepared for such events.
