Hello Everyone. According to the news, Alaska has over 250-fires burning, with the largest being in Denali Park. The Swan Lake/Skilak Lake fire is the one closest to us, but our only problem is the constant smoke. On Wednesday, the 21st, we were hit pretty hard with the smoke because of no wind and I believe it was the worst smoke we've had in my 42 years in Alaska.
This special journal is for all you former Alaskans who might be concerned with all the wildfires that have recently broken out here in Alaska.
Hello to all family and friends. Our last few days have been a bit strange here in Moose Pass. Smoke came in real thick from what we suspect to be the Swan Lake Fire as new hot spots sprang up. Then the temperature sprang up to 95 degrees, pretty hot for us, but it was followed by quite a wind storm that got rid of the smoke for awhile.
Good Morning to you all. A bit smokey here today on Moose Pass, due to a fire that broke out about mile south of us. We had a Forest Service multi-engine aircraft buzzing our house for about an hour as it deployed smoke jumpers.
85 degrees and clear here in Moose Pass, but it sure feels warmer. Except for some small glaciers, which we have watched grow smaller over the years here, the last of the snow has disappeared from the tall peaks. That spell where we had 90 degree heat really caused a melt down, raising the creek and rivers to near flood stage and Trail Lake came up several feet.
A very good morning to you all. Was up earlier than usual, found it sprinkling, cloudy and coolish. But now the rain has ceased, but still cloudy. Drove into Seward yesterday for doctor's appointment, town was busy with a large cruise ship in town and a lot of people all about the town. Ran into an old friend I hadn't seen for a year or so, only to find out they are leaving Alaska for Texas to live with family.
