Hello Everyone. According to the news, Alaska has over 250-fires burning, with the largest being in Denali Park. The Swan Lake/Skilak Lake fire is the one closest to us, but our only problem is the constant smoke. On Wednesday, the 21st, we were hit pretty hard with the smoke because of no wind and I believe it was the worst smoke we've had in my 42 years in Alaska.
No airplanes flying locally which meant no water drops, but the Russian River right now is keeping the fire from spreading into Cooper Landing. Road closure to Sterling/Soldotna was being done by pilot car because the smoke was so thick, or the road was closed for long periods of time. We drove into Seward and could never see the mountains, so all the tourists businesses were closed down and a lot of people were coughing. Yesterday a breeze came up and by early evening the valley was thinned out, but this morning the smoke was back, thick and smelly, along with the flies. These flies really seem to like Moose Pass.

We've had so little rain, just a couple days with sprinkles and this time of year we're usually having quite a bit of rainfall. So, the rivers are way down and the water is warmer than usual, which is causing a major problem for the spawning salmon. Several rivers have been closed down to fishing because of the low numbers. At one of the counting location where they normally counted 8,000 to 10,000 spawning silver salmon, the official reported for the time period they used they recorded only 5, FIVE spawning Silver Salmon. No one can remember such a low count. Climate change can have a drastic effect it seems. They still haven't figured out what's causing all the whales to beach themselves. For a while I was thinking it was due to the radiation still leaking out of Japan's nuclear plant at Fukishima, but then a pod of Killer Whales beached themselves toward Iceland.
Now we have tornadoes hitting Northern Europe, Finland just got clobbered by one. As I've said before I keep an eye on the news concerning volcano eruptions, earthquakes and such and for the last few days the earth has been relatively quiet. I also follow the United Nations News, plus my other 33 news services from all over the world. I follow the big protests going on in Hong Kong and Moscow, But one of the things I find so interesting is how in the United States it seems like our laws are being tossed out the window. Like in California where the elected body tossed President Trump off the ballot for 2020. Oh, I'm sure it will be challenged but they are taking the option away from the people, and now a federal judge has stated the Electoral College no longer has to vote the way the people are that they represent. That seems to be a violation of our voting laws. And you might have read how a elected official staged a mock assassination of President Trump. One might be able to look at that as treason, or at least a real poor decision on the official's side. More and more of our rights seem to be going by the wayside because a single federal judge believes that law is no longer applicable. Now I'm not a smoker, never was, but more and more states are moving toward minimum age to buy tobacco products as being 21 years old. We went through this when I joined the service in 1971 and couldn't buy beer until we were 19 years.. Oh, I could fight in Vietnam but couldn't buy a can of beer. Now a young GI cannot buy his smokes, but he can be shipped off to Afghanistan to fight. He or she might still be able to buy beer on base or post, as I'm not sure. And in the Muslim countries you cannot buy alcoholic beverages. Maybe they should put the minimum age for the military at 21 years instead of 18. The mental people, the ones who love to dissect our brains, are convinced now the human's mind is not fully operational until we reach 25 yrs old. In my case I think it was 50. So, to keep us from having a lot of dimwitted troops maybe we should make it 25 yrs to join up. Then we can make college mandatory, or trade schools. Except for combat schools and learning how to march right, which we can get at boot camp or basic training- depending on the service you join. They would then have their profession all lined out and completed before enlisting. We could use the fortune we save from military schooling to use toward college and trade schools and eliminate the individual's school debts. But enlistment would have to be mandatory then for anyone who used the program... I know its enough to make one's head rattle about. Mine often sounds like a pair of maracas beating to a Led Zeppelin tune. ( For you youngins, that was a 1960's-1970's rock group).

Book Report: My Sequel to "A Coming Storm", entitled "The Final Challenge", has now been edited by Ava and will soon be sent to the publisher. A Coming Storm ended with the Return of Christ and the enslavement of Satan, as recorded in the Word of God. But now, a thousand years later, Satan is released and the Lord Jesus has mysteriously vanished from His Throne in Jerusalem. Satan is now backout out to tempt all the Christians who have fallen away from the Lord and the Battle for Jerusalem now occurs.
Ava is now editing Book 3 of the "Apache Snow" trilogy. This one is based in Afghanistan and the book is entitled "The Sandbox Wars". I'm currently working on Book 5 in the Arizona Rangers series, this one entitled "Dangerous Path".
We just picked up the parts for the van yesterday in Seward and hopefully Chris will be able to make it over today, as it is reported the highway to Soldotna is open, but with some closure times. The van needed front brakes and callipers and he should be able to install them. We're also hoping to decide where their bus will be put when it gets brought over.
Not sure if I mentioned this, but our grey cat came home and she's back to sleeping on my chest again. We had thought one of the local coyotes might have gotten her. We 've had her for about 10-years.
