Our family left Whittier one time to visit family in Seward and though it wasn't even snowing in our town, when we came out through the two tunnels; one was 3.2 miles long and the other 1.6 miles long, the train carrying our vehicles on flatbed cars, took us into a major blizzard. We always thought it odd how one side of the splinter of Chugach Mountains could have a different weather system. We unloaded off the cars and had to four-wheel drive out through 3-feet of snow to reach the Seward Highway. Like most Alaskan Highways, the Seward was a 2-lane road. Only in Anchorage, Juneau or Fairbanks did you find a larger roadway. (Now most of you know all this, but some of our friends and guests live down in the Lower 48 and I feel sorry for them. Having grown up a Southern California city boy, I can understand one's love for their hometown, but after living in Alaska for over 30-yrs, I never want to go back. There is no place like Alaska.
So, we got on the highway, which still had 1-2 feet of snow on it and blowing snow creating white-out blizzard conditions. We were soon traveling along when I saw this very large mound of snow in our land right up ahead. When I stopped and I checked out the mound it was sure enough an abandoned car- left right smack in the middle of its lane. This was a 2-wheel drive sedan that made no sense to be out in these conditions.
Another time I was bringing my wife home from a Anchorage hospital following a surgery. It was snowing hard and we were in the process of getting 1-foot or more on the highway. In the process, with 75 miles to go- we were living in Seward then, she developed a post-surgical mishap and I was now racing for town with only my emergency blinkers on. I needed all my experience of driving patrol to keep us alive. We of course did arrive safely, though I probably drove half-a-dozen vehicles into the ditch to get by them. I don't recommend such driving in snow or in blizzard conditions. One of the reasons why we preferred driving 4x4s. While living in Whittier, where it was routine to get over 25 feet of snow every winter and this one winter some 30 feet, I had the high winds bring my patrol 4x4 to a dead stop. The US Coast Guard was in town to record Whittier's high winds, their boat's wind machine was blown right off and out into the bay. Their last recording was 122 mph. That was some winter and it ended with the Exxon Valdez creating a natural disaster heard around the world. That's when I really had to go to work.
Yes, my police career has been extremely wild at times and I was forced to deal with elements in their nastiness. I cannot tell you how much paperwork I did over those 20-years, but I think I can say I must have used up a Redwood tree or two. When I became the Seward Investigator I learned to deal with other officer's reports, that were often too short. I was taught you wrote out a police report you could come back to ten years later and find all the information you need right there in front of you. I was brought in for old and cold cases, when the suspect was finally picked up on a warrant and brought in. I attempted to pass this word of reason on to the other officers but only the younger officers took heart.
I was once given an investigation that was bringing a lot of heat down on my Police Chief, which involved a double burglary. The suspect had entered while the families were in bed and ripped off a lot of jewelry, clothing and funds. A gutsy thing to do in Alaska as most people sleep with a pistol or revolver nearby. I had one friend in Skagway who slept with a 9mm fully automatic machine gun. He was a gun collector and had a walk-in weapons vault in his basement and was licensed through the Feds to buy, possess and sell fully automatic weapons. I always dread responding to that home for family disturbance calls.
Anyhow, the two homes entered belonged to city councilmen and they wanted their things back - NOW. Trouble is, the police officers report consisted of a single paragraph and half-a-dozen photos of the scene. To say the least, I was not happy. The lieutenant had already counseled the officer, but he could not remember much else and had thrown away all his notes. So as I always did, I prayed over the report and the response came while Mona and I were driving down 3rd Avenue in Seward. A hard nudge. I arrested the 19-year old, was able to obtain a full confession and located 70% of the lost property. The rest he had pawned in Anchorage and I had the Anchorage police now running down the pawned property. But the council members were happy and so was the chief. When I left Seward PD I had a 82% closure rate in current and closed cases. When the Lieutenant as me how I solved so many case I explained how I prayed over them. Then he asked about the 18% I hadn't closed and I replied, " I either wasn't listening or the Lord has his reasons." He just shook his head and waved me so long. Later, I was brought by the city to work a labor dispute investigation. Though retired I was still working for the City's Harbormaster and I returned. Oh, I was able to close the case, but not the way the city wanted it. The city had overstepped their bounds and moved too fast to produce accurate results. So, I went back to the harbor.
If any of you out there are thinking about a police officer's career, do not think the cops on TV or in the movies are anything like real officers. Most of our job is 90% paperwork, patrol and thinking about that next job. The other 10% is your pure adrenaline rush. All too many officer never make it past their first year. They either find it too complex and boring from the paperwork and time in court or that 10% scares them too much. This is one of the reasons military veterans look into police work, they understand that 10% and have often weathered it.
As to why I became a writer; I guess I am simply long-winded and love a great story.
News Briefs:
China and Russia began construction of a joint natural gas pipeline, with dignitaries in Siberia to observe the first welding of pipes. ( I'll be following the pipeline news reports as I was given the dreams of the roadway and the massive tanks that require it as China invades Russia, which is being built from East Siberia into China in a joint Russia/Chinese endeavor, that will be the access road for the heavy pieces of digging equipment. Those dreams came 15 years ago. Once Eastern Russia is defeated, those same war machines will be turned toward Alaska for the invasion of North America (Alaska and Canada). I had thought the Comet ISON was the comet given to me in a strange series of events. But ISON was reported to have burned up in the sun. But a later check with NASA news reported some pieces of ISON had survived and NASA lost contact...or they have been told not to report on same. The pieces were large enough to be seen by the Hubble's special telescopes. So, who knows. I don't. Then we have the creation of ASEAN and this Asian grouping of countries matches up with the organization I was given to write about- "Oriental Alliance Pact" -10 countries led by Chinese warlords. I was also given the knowledge of how China would attack and conquer Vietnam, in need of their rice field to feed their armies and Vietnam's deep water ports for their navies. I'm watching this and there are increasing friction between those two countries. We will simply have to watch world events unfold. Now in my book, A Coming Storm, I show the Antichrist coming out of France. He surfaces in the closing days of World War III. With all the events unfolding in our own country, from all the lies the government has told us, I personally feel Obama is the man who comes before to set things in motion. He's lied to us about inflation, concerning the jobless numbers. At the point will he will pursue the abandonment of Israel, while selling or providing arms to those nations who have shown nothing but distaste for our country. The scandals unfold and he pushes lame excuses. We can easily see the inflation by going to store for groceries. Containers are smaller, thinner, less full and prices rocket. Enough said-for now.)
In Columbus, Indiana three Christian churches were vandalized. The word "Infidel" was sprayed on from a black spray bottle. There was also a Koran reference -"Qur'an 3.151" which says, "We will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve for what they have associated with Allah of which he had not sent down authority, and their refuge will be the fire, and wretched is the residence of the wrongdoers." ( Not quite like our John 3.16 posters.)

A 22-year old Arizona male resident who calls himself "Dark Lord", was arrested in Northern Arizona for "allegedly" setting a Bible on fire and then urinating on it. This event occurred outside a Christian-based homeless shelter. (The man was lucky the police got to him first, before a youthful group of militant Christians drove by. )
The Fairbanks/Minto area felt its 4th quake on Sunday afternoon, with this one in the 4.08 magnitude. Note: there is a site called My Quake. Com. , which can show you all the ongoing quakes around the world. Warning: it can be a bit scary to see how many quakes are happening. You almost expect the world to burst outward or tear apart, but small tremors in the 2. plus range are listed. I only list the ones that may have significance on growing world events and the prophetic word I trust from certain well-known prophets. The site was simply shown to me and the amount of quakes hitting California was amazing and all the shaking going on in Iceland was interesting because many scientist feel a lava dome is about to break surface in the country's largest volcano. This is why the Red Alert was sounded. There has been a lot of prophecy concerning California super quake. But now they are predicting the fault line to give out lies in the Pacific Ocean off of British Columbia, which will join the fault lines in Washington State, Oregon, possibly Idaho and of course California all the way down to Baja. If such event was to transpire Hawaii and Alaska will be in danger of tsunami action and these giant waves could do serious damage and produce high numbers of loss of life across the coastal communities of Asia and Southeast Asia. Now I doubt claims California will break-off and form Pacific Ocean Islands. But, a salt water river could form separating the lands. We will just have to wait and see, as it may not come in my lifetime or my great-grandson's lifetime.

Thousands of people rally in Britain against the growing rise of antisemitism. This upsurge in antisemitism is also spreading widely throughout Europe and the United States is also seeing a grown problem with the return of the Klan. ( The question to ask our elected officials is what they are doing about it. If they were gay or lesbian, would Washington stand for it? Or if the Klan only went after Blacks, what would Washington be doing right now? No, in this case the hate groups in the US, Britain and Europe seem to be focusing on the Jewish population. This sort of thing happened in the late 1930's to the gypsies and the Jews, World War II came next, but so many died beforehand. In Germany, the Jews had a lot of non-Jewish friends, next door-neighbors, but when the SS or Gestapo came it was as if they were now total strangers. They simply stood there and allowed for their friends to be hauled off, many of them to torture and death. The lucky ones went to labor camps.
I've read a lot of books on the Holocaust and for the German people it will long haunt them. This also occurred for the Russian people, as Stalin murdered 20-million people, while Hitler killed about $13 million, with 6 million or so being Jewish. In both Stalin and Hitler's acts of murder, these people were not soldiers. The exception being the few who could not go on with either man's plan of conquest and the murders it involved. Italy would have tried to conduct similar war activity, but the Italian people would not have stood for it and they became the only one to execute their leader.
What is truly amazing is how much of US History is wrong. The old adage of how the winners print the history works even with us in so many areas. Our beloved President Lincoln made his share of mistake and most Blacks do not realize how Lincoln wanted to send all the slaves back to Africa. He feared the now jobless Blacks with emancipation would become problems. Stealing food to survive, possibly murdering whites for past crimes against the Black man. One of things that saved him was getting congress to let him put the Black man of the North into the Army. The Confederate side actually had all Black regiments fighting the North, but you rarely hear of it now. Lincoln was also responsible for the order given to sail a US Naval Task Force into New York Harbor and fire upon the streets. The reason: because New York refused to send their militia down to fight in the Civil War. Many civilians died in that incident. How often do you see that in a history book now? So much has been dropped and all too many schools only teach US history from 1901 forward. President Obama seemed to have gotten away with his remark of how the US was first settled by Muslims, not the Mayflower crowd or the few groups earlier. We now know agent civilization sailed around the world and at least three of them sailed up the Mississippi long before Columbus left Spain in search of India.
When you see a fact, historical note, check it out for accuracy. Like were you aware that there were 5 Black men who signed the Declaration of Independence? I do not recall if they were involved with the US Constitution or the first Bill of Rights.
Well, I'm moving my writing area upstairs, mainly to have some quiet time while I write my new manuscript. This house can often get loud, reminding me of my ancient locker-room days after a winning football game or a real rough practice. In each case the stench was something un-describable. If could ever recall the smells I'd bottle them up and send them over to the Islamic State. But I'd probably get arrested for possession and delivery of a Weapon of Mass Destruction. Might be worth it though.
All for now. Hope you all had a great Labor Day. God Bless, Bill
