Since this Blog is now going out to others beside my Moose Pass Journal Family and there are those unfamiliar with our ministry here at Beth Shamar, (Hebrew for "Home of the Watchman"), we provide love, prayer cover, non-professional counseling- we use our many experiences and the Bible to assist in our counseling, housing and meals, for those people who are dealing with different forms of non-violent mental illnesses and chronic pain issues. When it comes to the subject of counseling we often get as much out of it as our guests and many become lifelong friends. Our church is right next door and we are located in one of the most beautiful valleys on the Kenai Peninsula in South Central Alaska. Moose Pass has a community of 200 and we are 28.5 miles from the nearest town-Seward, and 90-miles south of Anchorage- up in the Chugach Mountain range. Currently we have 9-people in our home, but this can quickly grow to 14-15 or even more. We do not charge for our ministry, we only ask that you put something back into the ministry by helping out.
Most of the people here now suffer from chronic pain and varying degrees of mental illnesses. Mona and I both deal with chronic pain and our own mental problems. Mine is PTSD from a long ago experience in Vietnam. But my Chronic pain has become a growing issue that often keeps me awake and led to my retirement from the State of Alaska. I was a former police officer and State Investigator, and the job caused my injuries.
I'm probably not the smartest character you've ever known and I will often strap on my back brace and force myself to go outside and get some jobs done. I hate to let my body win out in its disability and will push myself well-beyond its current capabilities to show I was still in charge. I can no longer feel much below my waist, so why not. I've lost over 105 lbs- a lot of it muscle and can no longer lift the big things, but I have teenagers to help out and they are a good bunch. Some of our guests get involved, too. But, later, I'm the last to come in, proven to myself I had won another day and sat down to carefully take my back brace off. This is when I realize where the words "chronic pain" come to light and I whine a lot or release a lady-like scream...only meaning I hit the high notes. It provided a bad evening and most of the night. Yes, mentally I had won out, but I always pay for it over the next 2-3 days. Sad...whine. But I still recall the doctors telling me I'd be paralyzed within 4 years of my injury date and that was 28-years ago. So, I guess I am saying do not be stupid as I all too often get, but never give up. I feel it my Lord's blessing and my mental drive that has kept me walking. Plus the 33 pills I take every day. Now I'm not saying all this provide myself with another chance to whine. No, I am writing this to show we here at Beth Shamar do understand chronic pain and dealing with mental illnesses like Bipolar, varying degrees of depression. BUT we are not doctors. We use Prayer, a shoulder to cry on and a listening ear.

Now I am a published writer, with much appreciation to Alaska Dreams Publishing for taking me on and my first book is entitled- "A Coming Storm". Since this is my blog, I've decided today to put in a plug for it today. This book can be ordered through Alaska Dreams Publishing in hardback or in a kindle-style format (which I know little about or how it works), or it can be ordered through Amazon. If this books sells, I have completed a prequel to this story and a sequel, which will make this a trilogy I've thought to entitle - "The End of Days" Trilogy. The main characters will be shown throughout the series.
"A Coming Storm", was first entitled, "The 7th Trumpet", but was changed at the completion of the first manuscript- 15 years ago. Since then it has been edited well-over 20 times. Numerous events happened in the process of writing this book; series of dreams, which provided some of the main story ideas. One single event that has still left us baffled: I was in the process of writing the story, when my computer died a serious death and we had no funds to buy a new one. So, we prayed and I continued writing down notes from the dreams I still received. Then one-day, during the summer, Mona and I were watching TV and the front door, only 12-feet away from us was open, a brand new computer and monitor suddenly appeared on our porch. Now we never heard anyone drive down our driveway, which is an impossibility because its 50-yards of hard packed dirt, or approach the cement porch. But I was once again writing again and all my inquiries as to who might have brought the computer came up blank- so I quit asking.
A second strange event occurred a few months later- I was nearly finished with the first draft and I was left with a 1500 page book. Of course I knew it was doubtful any publisher would take on that large of a manuscript from aa new author. Even Stephen King's "The Stand" had to be shortened by nearly a 1,000 pages before it was published. But his book did so well the much larger edition was finally released. Now I had nearly completed the draft, but I could not come up with the beginning I needed- something I heard authors refer to as the "catcher". A word for when a reader first open a book and reads the first few pages and the author's writing style, story idea and character development needs to "catch" the reader and persuade him into purchasing it.
I wrestled with it for over a week and prayed about it, but I was coming up blank. Then one morning I came to my desk to begin writing ( remember I am retired and have a lot of time on my hands to write), and when I opened up my computer I found myself on the CNN Science Page. Now, back then I was not following the news services like I do now and why it was on the CNN Science Page sort of surprised me. But I was shocked when I saw what was being shown on that page. A new comet had suddenly appeared in the heavens, shooting out from behind Jupiter and headed straight for Earth. The comet, no name on it yet, would strike the earth in 2017. I stared at the computer screen for several minutes, for 2017 was when my main story was to begin. I made a series of notes, but when I tried to print the page out my old-ancient printer wasn't working. But this happened often. In my mind I knew I now knew I had the beginnings to my story, though I doubted anyone would be reading my story. Remember- this was 15 years ago (early 1999 and 2017 was a ways off).
Odd thing though, when I tried to find that CNN Science Page about the Comet, I could not find it. I also could not find any other sites that should have at least published some sort of story about the coming catastrophe- but no. But at least at I had my story's lead-in. Years later, I believe it was 2012, I was re-editing this story and that same CNN Science Page showed up. Again, I could not make a copy of it and we did have a functional printer then. But the story had changed somewhat by providing the impact point as Northern Thailand and I added this to my story. Of course that page disappeared again and I figured it was one of those God moments, similar to the dreams I received in writing this apocalyptic tale. Now I keep reminding people I am not a prophet, just someone who was given a series of dreams to write about. Mona was also receiving similar dreams and had visions, which the content were added into the manuscript. Then a few days later, I do not recall the exact number, Comet ISON suddenly appeared, shooting out from behind Jupiter and behaving strangely. This was just as the one in my CNN story behaved. I began to wonder if Comet ISON was the comet I was writing about, but some of the years didn't line up as with the appearance of the Two Witnesses. They should have already been on seen if ISON was the right comet. But I had to remember God was in charge and He could do what ever he wanted. I also mention how 4 of the events to occur setting up the tale and leading into World War III have occurred and I am now watching a 5th.
I had gone through 3 agents by this time and I couldn't afford to self-publish such large manuscripts- it would have cost me thousands. So, I finished my story and put it away and began writing another one. I had a file box with several stories in it, not doing much of anything. Except to say- "Hey, I wrote those and I am the guy who flunked high school English twice." I was a jock, enough said. Then last year I received a call from a good friend- Gary Wells, who was in the process of having his novel published and he told me about Alaska Dreams Publishing. This was a company interested in help new authors. Alaska Dreams Publishing has its Internet site under that name and I highly recommend it to all you writers for self-publishing and being published by the company if they feel your manuscript will sell. They took a chance on me and my second book, "Apache Snow", will also be out soon. Please check out Alaska Dreams Publishing if you are a writer. Now below is a brief synopsis for "A Coming Snow", for those of you who have not seen it yet:
"A Coming Storm"(22) chapters, (556) pages- An apocalyptic tale detailing the experiences of three separate character groups in the closing moments of Biblical End Times: (1) An Alaskan National Guard, primarily made up of Native Alaskans (Eskimo, Aleut and Athabascan Indians), are positioned at the City of Wales, Northwest Alaskan Coast and preparing to engage the Chinese lead Oriental Alliance Pact (OAP). The Asians are readying themselves to come across the Bering Strait Ice Bridge to Invade Alaska and Canada. (2) Members of the Fairbanks Police Department, who are dealing with the evacuation of the city, spies for the OAP, food riots, anti-Christian and anti-Semitic gangs who resemble Nazis, dwindling supplies and chaos, and strict food rationing down to one small meal a day. The Fairbanks Police Department must move over 100,000 people 90-miles east to Fort Greeley, where the final stand against the OAP will be made. (3) From Phoenix, Arizona a non-denominational church pastor leads his church congregation on a long journey, following the visions he has been given over the last year. With one of the strangest convoys to hit the roads, these characters head north through a country destroyed by a Chinese nuclear /biological/chemical missile attack that came as a big surprise on Christmas morning. They have radiation zones to bypass, deal with hostile motorcycle gangs, mutiny in the ranks and a deadly disease being spread across a smoldering U.S., in order to reach Alaska. There's a reason this pastor and his people are called north, but it doesn't become clear until the final moments of this story.
All three character groups are gradually brought together until the last battle is fought between Alaskan/Canadian forces and OAP armies.
Strong in character dialogue and rich in relationships, this story begins with the discovery of a 1.2 mile long comet that's headed for earth, which sets off world panic. A new disease is discovered, which has a high fatality rate and the United Nations crumbles as China walks out leading more than 50 of the world countries with it. Events in the U.S. have caused them to withdraw from NATO, allowing Western Russian Forces to invade Europe. The Antichrist rises in France and becomes the First Emperor of the new European Empire. Meanwhile, Chinese warlords form the new Oriental Alliance Pact of 10-nations China feels are strong allies. They tear up their treaty with Russia and invade Eastern Siberia, using the roadway Russia has built to monitor the new Russia/China Natural Gas Line. The new road, which I saw 15 years ago in my dreams and only recently was planned out and a treaty signed between China and Russia, now holds the new juggernaut/super-tanks China has built to crush Russia and then North America/Canadian forces. China is in need of the natural resources, knowing the comet with destroy much of the orient and there is hope the world will survive post-impact.
The story shows numerous events leading up to World War III. The intention of the story was to show End of Days events taking place outside the Middle East and showing the heroes and cowards who would be involved in those final hours. The last battle is fought on the massive snowy plains of Fort Greeley, where massive earthquakes bring about a high fatality count and 600 heroic Royal Canadian Mount Police, mounted on black war horses, lead the attack against thousands of Asian infantry. With all hope all but lost, the Biblical final Trumpet sounds across the world and the Lord, leading his Heavenly Host descends upon the earth to enter the fray. At the end, the Lord's 1,000 year reign of the Lord begins and this leads into the sequel.
I really do hope you enjoy the story, whether by Kindle device or hardback. I would also request your comments after reading it. Pro-or-con, this remarks will help me become a better writer and might appear, with your permission, in one of my next books.
Now I Wont' go into Part #3 of Legend of Blue Eyes until tomorrow. So hold on and its coming. And no, I am not doing this from memory, I wrote this all down long ago and presented a copy of this story to my children who I bored them to death over the years with my repeated telling of it. I figured they could then read the story to their kids some day.
But, here we go with some news briefs:
Germany: To "crackdown" on volunteer "Shariah Police" - Muslims who have recently begun patrolling outside night clubs and train stations, asking people not to gamble, not to drink alcohol and to seek Islam. Germany does not tolerate "Shariah Law". (Ironically, based on what the article spoke on, this same thing happened back in 1933-34 Germany, when the Nazi movement first began patrolling the streets of Berlin. Strange how history continues to repeat itself.)
WHO confirms more than 3,600 Ebola cases in the 5 West African countries. One health specialist says, " This thing is a lot more contagious then we were given ...or we were told." Dr. Jorge Rodriguez, a Medical Board certified Internal Medicine Specialist says, " It's (Ebola Virus) is much worse than what's being reported."
4.3 earthquake jolts North China's Hebel Province. No information on injuries or damage.
China: Nearly 20,000 Beijing couples have received permission to have a 2nd child. ( I wonder how long before America will impose family limits because of population worries and strains on the economy and if Americans would stand for such a thing).
Ebola outbreak in the Congo now responsible for 32 deaths.
Islamic State releases a video threatening President Putin and vowing to wage war in Russia's restive North Caucasus.
Report in New York Times says Foreign powers are buying influence in Washington D.C. Think Tanks. Though formally known for their impartiality, these non-profit "Think Tanks" have received millions of dollars from foreign governments , while pushing U.S. officials to adopt policies that often reflect the donor's priorities.
Sierra Leone to impose a 3-day Ebola quarantine beginning September 19th. Citizens will not be able to leave their homes, to help prevent the spread of the virus and allow health works a chance to identify the Ebola cases in its early stages.
Jerusalem: Rioting throughout East Jerusalem involving Molotov cocktails, firecrackers and rock throwing. Numerous neighborhoods engulfed in violence Saturday night when hundreds of masked Palestinians attacked police in mostly Arab areas of Jerusalem, where small groups of Jewish people live. Riot police armed with stun grenades, tear gas and sponge bullets, moved in and quelled the outbreak. In past weeks the police have arrested 550 Arabs for rioting. Apparently the murder of a Muslim teenager is the reason behind the rioting. This last Saturday's riot followed a Hamas "Victory Parade". In July, more than 360 assaults against Jews occurred in East Jerusalem, double the number of last year's July in East Jerusalem.
Another Asteroid missed us. (Strangely enough it was first sighted only 2 weeks ago. Maybe we should put more funding into our surveillance of the heavens. Soon or later....)
Time to sign off, my friends and family. I do hope you enjoy this blog
