I want to get to Part # 3 of The Legend of Blue Eyes as I promised, so I will now jump to some news briefs. I hope you may keep a record of a few of them as you see a build up of events, which reminds us of other historical wars. The events building in the Middle East are similar to pre-World War One, while Pacific events identifies with pre-World War II. Syria was our enemy, then suddenly our friend, but now with promises from Russia, Syria has threatened us- see the news below:
Firefighters in Maywood, Illinois, west of Chicago, were issued orders to remove American flag stickers and other patriotic stickers from their lockers inside the station. One such sticker in a Marine Corps/Vietnam sticker placed on a father's locker 30-years ago and now used by his son. Four firefighters of mixed races refused the order and were suspended by their Chief. A hearing is pending. The Fire Chief is concerned with someone walking into the locker room and being offended by these stickers.
3.2 earthquake hits 40 miles east of Anchorage, Alaska.
Ukraine ceasefire has "good prospect" of peace, says President Poroshenko. He added that 70% of Russian troops have left the Ukraine.
(Inflation or Stupidity?) Underground parking places in New York on sale for $1 million dollars, costing more than the dwellings above them.
Human Rights march turns violent in Santiago, Chile, with fire bombs being thrown at authorities, who respond with water cannons and gunfire. No further information provided.
China has mocked Britain by saying, losing Scotland will make Britain a third-rate nation.
The Federal Air Marshal who was stabbed with the syringe in Nigeria is now back to work. Nothing dangerous was found in the syringe, which remaied stuck in the Air Marshal's arm, as the attacker fled. Authorities now fear this attack was a dry run, a test of the law enforcement's reaction. Continual testing will be made on the Air Marshal's blood. But now, Nigeria has issued a claim that the incident never happened.
World Health Organization announces new Ebola death toll as being at least 2,296 people.
United States Senior Homeland Security Official confirmed to congress that militants associated with the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant ( ISIL or ISIS) are planning to enter the United States through the southern border with Mexico.
International Watchdog Agency reports Syrian President Bashar al-Assad used chemical weapons on Syrian villages this last April.
"Armed Patriots", private citizens now guarding our southern borders by patrolling stretches of private property with the owners permission to avoid problems with US Border Patrol. Ranch owners have reported problems to the government of illegal immigrants causing problems on their property, shooting at their homes and killing the rancher's cattle. Up to 22 of these Patriot groups have arrived from all over the U.S. and they do not see themselves as Militias, nor do they like that word. But they do come heavily armed and this is to intimidate the illegals and hopefully stop them from crossing. However, they do carry stretch-cuffs to detain the illegals and turn them over to Border Patrol Officers.
Russia test fired a new ICBM and President Putin says Russia must maintain its nuclear deterrence to counter security threats.
The U.S. top counter-terrorism official warned that Islamic State of Iraq and Levant is stealing $1 million dollars a day to fund its operation and could have the ability to convince its American sympathizers to conduct terror strikes "here at home with no warning".
Presidential Memorandum- White House- Delegation of authority under Section 506(a)(1) of the Foreign Assistance Act of 196- President Obama used this act to provide up to $25 million in defense articles and services to provide military assistance to Iraq, including the Kurdistan Regional Government. ( This action has upset a lot of people in Washington).
U.S. Strives to permanently sink France's sale of Mistral Warships to Russia.
Ferguson, Missouri- 100 plus demonstrators were barred from entering Interstate 70 by local authorities, while protesting the shooting death of Michael Brown. 20- people were arrested. Threats being made of massive rioting to take place around the country if police officer involved in the shooting is not brought to trial and convicted.
A social media campaign has called for a boycott of Carl Jr's for its risque advertisements of scantily clad models, which objectify women and harm men.
Egypt, Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, plus three others join the United States in a 10-member coalition to fight radical Sunni Militants. This allows for more airfields for US warplanes to be parked, rearmed and refueled. (BUT, this will also mean transporting U.S. warplanes, weapons, fuel and ammo into those countries. A Coalition of Muslims who have taken blood oaths to destroy the United States. Are we asking our pilots and servicemen, needed for support, to put their heads into a hungry lion's mouth???)
Russia says U.S. airstrikes against Islamist Militants in Syria without a United Nations Security Council Mandate would be an "Act of Aggression". This would and could be seen as a gross violation of international law. (Russia is one of the members of the UN Security Council and it takes only one vote to council out a needed mandate. China is also a member.)
Tension with Russia has caused the cancellation of Alaska Military Air Exercises. This would have involved U.S., Canada and Russia in this Fall exercise, but the Ukraine Crisis has ended this Fall's war games.
Arkansas State University football players were ordered to either remove the white Christian crosses off the back of their helmets or modify them into a mathematical sign ( plus sign). A complaint was made how the cross violated the U.S. Constitution. Players said the cross was to memorialize a player killed in a vehicle accident and a former team equipment manager who was gunned down in a drive-by shooting. ( How far are we going to go, to let them shove us right over our beliefs? Take a flag down, remove a Bible, be told we no longer can pray here or there...what more can we allow before we say this is enough. We do not do this to any other religion. Yes, they're some evil fanatics saying they are Christian who will burn a pile of Korans, but this is not Christian love and these idiots are the extreme minority. But the who Christian and often the Jewish faith is ordered to lick a boot or watch as a burning cross disgraces our front yard. When do we say- "enough!" How soon before they will come into our homes to search out our room for Bibles, Biblical paintings and statues to seize- why you may ask, because your house is financed with a Veterans Administration Loan and the atheists and Nazis have gone to court to make that attack. No, when and where do we make our stand and show our Lord we are His!!!!)
Missouri lawmakers override their governor's veto and pass a new law that will now require a 72 hour waiting period after a woman receives her initial counseling with doctor before ending her pregnancy. (Missouri had a 24-hour waiting period, as several other states do, but they are now the first state with a 72-hour waiting period.)

Syria Government reiterates need for its consent in foreign action on Islamic State inside Syria. Any uncoordinated foreign air attacks on Syria Territories without consent of Syrian Government will be deemed an Act of Aggression. ( This has a real stench about it. First we armed the rebels fighting this Syrian President, then we were agreeing to arm him to fight the Islamic State and now this. I would suggest he has had a few visits with President Putin and now Russia is making promises. Believe me I am no strategist, but this may have a big picture behind it and I am thinking out loud. This could involve Russia and its few allies kicking something off here in the Middle East, involving the US, Europe and Britain in a major ground war. This would involve the United States in a major way, but it could leave the Pacific wide open for China to launch its attack on ASEAN, plus the Philippines, India and of course Japan. Thanks to President Obama, the US Military is now to thin to fight two major fronts. We also have all these meetings taking place between China and Russia to discuss a natural gas line- just how many meetings does it take? The biggest thing to remember is....President Obama's Coalition is all Muslim, not our friends. but hey, I am probably full of hot air and peace will abound- cookies anyone?)
United Nations reports 4,000 Ebola cases, with 2,200 dead. Liberia reports 2,300 cases with over 1,200 plus cases dead. Over 152 health workers in Liberia are infected and 79 of them have died.
That's it for the news and my excellent commentary. Now for Part 3 of Legend of Blue Eyes-
My Flight Chief, TSgt Harrel, was a perfectionist, which meant he disliked the use of "White Out" to cover typos on the police blotter. He know copies would go to the Squadron Commander and the Base Commander. He'd also heard of particular police blotters going up to Group Command and he wanted his flight's blotter to be perfect. I often hated this man.
Now we both knew why the blotters for our rather unusual events disappeared, but we often spoke about our ideas on where they ended up. I'm pretty sure they went into a classified "burn bag". This is where chemicals in the bag completely dissolve the contents, but a match would've worked just as well. The whole Burn Bag just adds dramatic effect for some junior officer in a classified section to help deal with another boring shift. Cold war was over, Vietnam was history and Iraq hadn't come about yet.
Now sometime had passed since the MARS Site incident and we were back to normal procedures; one man per vehicle. I was of course on Desk, but working without assistance that night since a few troops were on leave, and when the phone rang I was surprised to see it was one of our roadside emergency phones. We have those scattered about the base on the two major highways to help drivers in the event they broke down or became stuck in the sand. The desert was no place to breakdown when you were still 12-20 miles from civilization. This particular emergency phone was rarely used, at least on my shift, as it was only 8 or so miles from main base.
I used my pencil to mark down the time, exactly 9:30 p.m. or 2130 hours, as I reached with my other hand for the phone. My phone board resembled a master telephone exchange board. There were two emergency phones we usually got our joke or obscene calls, but we got used to them and never dispatched a patrol to the phone as the caller would be long gone. I only wished the people had come up with some new material.
The voice on the phone was elderly, male and a bit shaken up. He was calling to report he'd been involved in a motor vehicle accident less than a mile south of the phone and he believed he had hit a large bear. Upon hearing this some of the hairs on the back of my neck shot straight up. While I had this gentleman on the phone I dispatched the South Base Patrol to the Emergency Phone to take an accident report. I then returned to the man and asked if there were any injuries in his vehicles and he replied, "No, its only my wife and I and we were only shaken up. But I am concerned for the animal, it may not be dead." At this point I dispatched my All-Base Patrol to the location, to get directions and to go to that location to search for a wounded bear and any evidence from the accident. I dispatched a third patrol to the emergency phone to escort the old couple up to our headquarters as I wanted to interview them and see if there was any damage to their car. I of course advised them of what was going on and to have them provide any information possible for finding the location of the accident scene. He then advised me they would have no problem because his car was knocked to the side and into a sandbank. Now I was worried. I called the armorer and advised him to ready a shotgun for the Flight Chief. But after I informed him of what was going on, he said he'd wait. "If what hit that gate got smacked with a car, it's probably on the move and I'd rather not find it tonight." Smart man.
A half-our or so later the patrolman and the older couple driving their vehicle arrived at SP Headquarters. I took them into the Flight Chief's Office and interviewed them, while leaving my All-Base patrolman manning the desk.
They had left San Bernardino and were on their way to Mojave City and were cutting through the base to save time. Though the speed limit in this area of desert was 65 mph, they were driving at 45-55 mph and were shock to see this massive shape appear right in front of them and then a hard contact was made. Strange, they both felt as if they was actually thrown to the side of the road instead of bouncing off the large animal. They were driving a 1968 Caprice and the battle damage was done on the driver's front side. They then struck the sand bank, twirled once in a complete circle and came to a complete stop with their front end pushed into the same sandbank. He had waited several minutes, not wanting to go outside if there was a wounded bear wandering about waiting for dinner. When he did finally step out, not having any vehicle traffic drive by, he discovered they were along and his front end was a mess. Head light and front driver's side grill demolished, bumper broken off and hanging on the driver's side and left front quarter-panel bent-up. He also then noticed his windshield had several cracks in it.
I sent the patrolman who escorted them to go outside and with evidence gloves on, gather any and all evidence he could find from the vehicle. The Staff Sergeant manning the desk for me advised the other patrolman had discovered evidence and was bringing what he could in.
I was suddenly not happy the Staff Sergeant had left the young patrolman alone without asking permission from me, but he did outrank me when he was off patrol. So, I couldn't say anything, but I knew from the look on his face my Flight Chief would have a word with him. I thanked the people and asked the Staff Sergeant to serve them some coffee, while I took over the desk. I quickly did a security check with my patrolman on scene and he was fine. I made security checks every 3 minutes, until he left to head back here with the evidence.
With a floodlight, he had made a check of the area and didn't spot any critter and the desert was pretty flat through this area. Only some low bushes, the occasional scorpion and wandering tarantula. I had asked him to check for foot prints and he had, but couldn't find any. He was actually trying to locate a bear claw I found out. I'm really glad he didn't.
I was shown the Polaroid prints of the vehicle and the scene, showing the damage and what appeared to be blood spots and trails. Evidence was taken of the blood on the vehicle and placed into evidence bags, as well as blood evidence taken off the road at the scene. The patrolman also discovered groupings of lengthy brown hair that was extremely coarse. I looked at it and felt it through the evidence bag and it felt so strange, unlike any fur I had felt before. But I knew my imagination could be playing games.
After looking at the photos and the evidence I wanted to ask the old couple one more question before I let them go and I had this on a cassette tape recorder. I asked them if they had seen anything else about the animals, such as claws, teeth..." the older woman stopped me. "Yes, Sergeant, now I remember...it had the strangest eyes and I can't believe I had forgotten them. They were the strangest blue color and so very large, shiny. It was as if they could swallow you." She then asked her husband if he had seen them, but he didn't remember.
That night I typed one reports and ran two police blotters. One would show the events of the night and one never listed the South Base incident. But I did make sure the elderly couple had an accident report filled out to turn into their insurance company to cover their repairs and listed the critter as a bear. They were rare now, but did still exist.
My boss apparently got a kick out of the two blotters and with everything simply seized by whoever, I wasn't woke up. But I didn't get much sleep that night anyway, I kept looking outside my barracks room window and wondering who or what this blue eyed thing was and what had it come from.
Stay Tuned for Part # 4 of "Legend of Blue Eyes".
