Followed by 18yrs, where I graduate, get married , sign-up for the draft and supposedly I'm a legal adult. But though I can fight in Nam, I cannot legally drink booze back home. Now I'm 21, I can legally drink and get sick a lot for over-doing-it to impress my friends- we won't get into that. At 25, I am now a quarter of a century old and father of two boys. At 50yrs, I am father of 6 children, a grandfather and half-a-century old. Then comes 55-an I'm considered a senior citizen, but I grew up under the idea that seniors start at 65yrs. Someone changed the game plan and dropped 10-years off, but no Social Security yet. Here I am at 64, one year to go for the big 65. I have 22 grandchildren and my 2nd great grandchild is due any day. It this sort of thing that makes one look back and wonder, "How'd it pass by so-o-o fast. In July I celebrate my 37th anniversary to my beautiful Mona. Who has made my life worth living and with many acts of bravery stood along side me during troublesome times while I worked rural Alaska police departments. Often, she was my only back-up and she is one gutsy broad. No, I do not recommend you call her that, she has her own pistol. 37-years ago I also became a Christian, that as the story goes, transformed my life forever. It's too bad more cops were not Christians, I believe they'd be a lot more popular. Yes, time can be an enemy, but it can also be friend. Maturity can become a friend and not a liability. I put a lot of grown men and women in jail who never grew up.
I now tend to think birthdays should only come every 5 years. Birthday cakes should always be chocolate with chocolate/peppermint frosting. Two dozen of your favorite donuts...I can ask for this because I'm not able to gain any weight. Super! At last I finally got it to stop and I'm holding at 200 lbs. Took me two weeks to gain back from 193. While officially retired from police work, I'm in a new profession of being a writer. Yes, I need additional work with the English Language, I have been blessed with the publication of my 4th Christian fiction novel. I have 6 manuscripts...or more, waiting and seriously thinking on another 4 or 12 stories to come. Maybe I could work on Christmas cards for some company. Back when I was a cartoonist, in the old days when my hands didn't shake, I published a string of cartoon post cards for some Skagway tourist shops. I was famous in my own house, a couple relatives and the kid down the block, who understood them. Okay, enough on life, and where it brings us. But, truthfully, Alaska was the last place I thought I'd end up living in...well, as far as the 50-states went. I never wanted to got to Egypt, anywhere in South America, Russia or China, either. I also disliked living on the coast, I had this weird thing about tsunamis. Yet, I still worked for 3 coastal police departments. But you can bet I kept my eyes out for any ripples in the water, or whole coastlines being sucked out...that happens before the waves hit. I'm writing about this matter currently in my new series, "Fire and Ice".
If you read the newspapers you'll find an increased amount of stories referring to Russia desiring the return of Alaska to them. Stating how the deal way back when was illegal, or a farce. But no one seems to want to know what Alaskans think about this and not even a poll to see if we'd be willing to go. We may be small in numbers up here, still less than one million, and for those of you who failed geography, we are still the largest state in the union. This gives us room to stretch out our arms, breathe real clean air in and not have to go to a zoo to see the local wild animals. We are a multi-racial state and home to so many different religions. To the NEWS, I do not desire to increase our tourist numbers, makes summer traffic so hard to deal with because of our lack of roadways.
Global News: Congo- New Ebola outbreak in the Republic of Congo- 3 deaths so far, as reported by the World Health Organization- WHO. Last outbreak killed 11,300 people.
Global News: Germany- Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen, ordered the army barracks, who still bear names/plaques and signs, for World War II Nazi officers, to be removed. A show to the world Germany Post-War armed forces have made a clean break from their Nazi past, ( It's only taken them 72-years to get this done. But, we have our own delays, as our American southeast state governments have needed 152 years to remove the statues of slave-owning confederate generals.)
Global News: Spain- Tens of thousands of people marched through the streets of Madrid, to demand an end of bullfighting. ( Curious I once went to Mexico to see a bullfight....I never saw another one.)
Global Times: Brazil- WHO confirmed 259 deaths from yellow fever- so far in 2017.
Global Times: United States- US Government has approved the possible sale of 160 missiles to the United Arab Emirates for $2 billion , Pentagon reported. ( It'll be nice to know what these things are when they begin raining down upon American forces in the Middle East.)
Iran Herald: US is close to completing a $100 billion arms deal with Saudi Arabia. ( Maybe we can just sell a dozen B-2s to Russia.)
Iran Herald: Yemen reports 115 people dead and 8,500 hospitalized in a new cholera outbreak. Hospitals struggling to handle the current crisis.
Gatestone News Institute: Rather than ask immigrants to wanting to become German citizens to assimilate the German way of life, German citizens are being asked to embrace the foreign cultural norms they bring to Germany- changing the religious and political ways of Germany. This is also happening throughout the European Union, as Muslims continue to fill Europe by the millions and the spread of Islam, and its sharia law. ( also happening in Canada and some counties or boroughs in North East USA. Christians and Jews being called racists, even by government officials, and as taught in several state run colleges or universities. Tax dollars at work there. I don't really know anymore about what the military is teaching their troops anymore.)
That is all the news for now.
I wish you all a nice weekend....hey, the sun just came out!!!! Oh, Total Solar Eclipse happening in mid-August, twenty minutes of darkness for all to see...basically a full-moon like night. Lots of babies get made on such nights and no, I don't know why.
Bye! God Bless, BILL
