HAPPY FATHER'S DAY TO ALL YOU DADS: Yes, another Father's Day has come around and as with Mother's Day, we use this event to celebrate our parents, our uncles, brothers and brothers-in-laws, sons, grandsons and cousins, nephews and grandfather's contributions into their children's lives.
Mona and I have been blessed to have 6-children, I believe at last count some 19-grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. We've watched our sons and daughters grow to become outstanding people, with our oldest being 43 this year and our youngest being 33 years of age. Yes, we have been truly blessed. We have law enforcement officers among them, military officer, artists and just some great parents in their own right. I am extremely proud to be the patriarch of this Casselman clan and grateful for the blessing the Lord has bestowed upon Mona and I in parenting this flock of kids. Life has truly been good to us and I am thankful for my father and grandfathers and the many lessons I have learned from them.
My own father, Frank Leroy Casselman, died early at 58-years of age due to a bad heart. He suffered 7-heart attacks and the last one took him home to be with the Lord. He was a strong Christian man, who came to know the Lord in his late forties. A Korean War vet, who was sent in at the beginnings of that war and finally sent home a wounded soldier, had a hard time in his early life and at 8-years old he had run away from an state run orphanage in Wisconsin to seek out his father who was working in California. He got as far as Texas and was brought back. He and his 3 sisters were in the orphanage in order they could find food and care because their mother could not find work and their Dad was off working for Howard Hughes in South America and later in California. Grandpa was a old fashioned blacksmith with large hands covered in dozens of burn scars. My Dad ran away at the age of 9, and this time rode the rails to California where he searched and later did find his Dad. He remained with him until he was 17, when he was accepted into the U.S. Army and stationed in Japan. He was a tank crewmen for a medium sized tank. Once in Korea, he had survived the destruction of two tanks and an armored half-track, and was then assigned to a Forward Observation position up on the North Korean border with China. He was up there over the Yalu River, when 860,000 Chinese troops crossed the river and into North Korea. He told me of how the men abandoned their positioned and were forced to flee for some 80-miles to escape the horde of Chinese troops. He spent one night lying partially underwater in a rice paddy to escape being found by the Chinese troops and later became severely frostbitten during the harsh Korean winter. Wounded twice, he was later sent home, where he would soon afterward meet my mother. At one point in his life, my dad decided to take up skydiving. At the time he was an accountant and wanted something wild to escape the boredom of his job. I was 8 years old when I watched him make his first and only two jumps at Elsinore Lake Drop Zone in Southern California. During his first jump, his main chute failed to deploy completely and then his reserve chute failed him, he fell from 2500 feet to approximately 75 to 100 feet above ground both chutes blossomed at once. He still struck the ground hard, leaving a good sized hole in the ground. Complaining of a sore backside, he allowed his friends to talking him into a second jump that same day, telling him if he didn't he would probably never jump again. So, he did. This time the main chute worked perfectly, but because of his sore backside, he was unable to bend his legs and came in with his right leg rigid and shattered his leg in three places. When they got him to the hospital it was revealed he had actually broken several of the vertebrae in his spine from that first jump. He was in a full body cast for several weeks and very unhappy during that time. My mom and dad were divorced when I was 8 years old and I would spend most of my summers with him in Phoenix, Arizona. We spent a lot of time touring the various desert spots of Arizona and he truly enjoyed the empty desert plains. He woke up one morning to find two rattlers sharing his body warmth and remained motionless for over an hour until the snakes slithered away. For a time, I had a hard time with my Dad, especially after he became a Christian and I was still a Mormon. We fought a lot- verbally. The man never raised a hand against me my whole life. He was a talker and was prone to lecture, which according to my children I had inherited this. My one son once told me he had wished for a spanking rather then another one of my lecturers. So, I was much like my father in many ways. Once I became a Christian my father and I became friends again. He would never tell me about the Korean War, not until I came home from Viet Nam and only then did he tell me about his experiences, his fears and his tears and he listened to my own experiences. I was one day I'll always remember. I miss him every day and look forward to the day I am brought home to be able to see him and my grandfathers and my mother, my second mother Bea, and my grandmothers. I was fortunate to have such oldsters to learn from and I hope I've been able to do the same for my own children and grandchildren. Still, I do tend to lecturer a lot.... Happy Father's Day.
As you all know I spend every morning reviewing the news of the day from about 34 news sites, but not all the same day. I find it so disheartening to read of the Mexico/U.S. Border Crisis and how things are being so mishandled by both sides. Mexico is being invaded from Central and South America, while Europe is being invaded by Africa and the Middle East- people in search of miracles to change their pore and painful lives in Third World countries. It is so sad and at such a grand scale of misfortune I feel only the Lord's Return will be able to change the lives of the world's masses.
But, I also see the rise in tensions between the superpowers as it seems so many countries are preparing for a world war- World War III. The Middle East is ready to erupt with Iran threatening the U.S. and Israel. Russia and China in conflict with the U.S. and the incidents between these superpowers growing all too rapidly. The Bible speaks of such a war... the Battle of Armageddon. Will it be in my lifetime, the life time of my sons and daughters, or my grandchildren? Only the Lord knows that day in time when Hell is released upon this planet. ut we are at a crucial point and cooler heads need to prevail before someone pushes that proverbial button and all bets are off.
In my book, A Coming Storm, which is based upon a series of dreams I had over twenty years ago, I attempted to show what World War III would be like for the people of Alaska. It ends with the return of Christ and the enslavement of satan for a thousand years. Now I am wrapping up the last two chapters of the sequel to A Coming Storm, in my new book, "The Final Challenge". In this book, the thousand years has ended and satan is released from his fiery prison to once more tempt mankind for a final testing. This brings on a final war as the fallen Christians, who now serve the dark lord, launch a massive attack to take control of the City of Jerusalem. Here, the Christians from around the globe join together to defend the historic city and a last, battle is fought over a three-day period. I won't ruin the ending for you, but I feel this has been some of my best writing. It has been a lot of work editing and re-editing this story until I was completely satisfied with this TALE. Yes, this is a tail, not to add to or subtract anything from the Book of Revelation. Just a story of what MIGHT be. Its 400- pages, so it is not a mall book. But there was a lot to tell and many of the stories again came to me in my dreams. I had originally thought to make this a 13-book series, but I was eventually led to make this a single book and uses many of the same main characters used in A Coming Storm. From "Jubilation Day", when the Heavenly Host descends from the heavens to end World War III and enslave the beast, the next thousand years are under the reign of the Lamb of God. No one ages beyond their late 40's and those who do die are victims of accidents. For there is no disease, no wars and no crime as the world is covered by Christians and the Lord reigns supreme from his Throne Room in Jerusalem. Man and all the critters of the world once more can communicate with one another, just as it was in the time of Adam and Eve in the Garden. But with the release of Satan to once more test mankind, those who fall from grace lose this ability to communicate with the animals. These new sinners join together to make a mighty army for Satan in his attempt to steal the throne of the Father. I'll leave it there...read thy book when it comes out if you're interested. Yes, the world continues to turn. Now, I have read a report in the news of how some scientists have detected a large growing spot on the moon's surface. Now the source seems reputable, but nothing from NASA. Maybe the moon's cheese has become moldy. I'll try to follow the story and see what comes of it. Probably just another moon story, like the one that we've already established a moon base...Have we? Why did we stop the shuttle program and now reply completely on the Russians to get our people to the International Space Station. Politics or what?
Oh well. I hope all you fathers have a great day. As usual, with the weekend fo the MoosePass Festival, it is raining. So, we stayed home. Today is the big auction, but I have no need to add to our supply of things. We continue to downsize, some for yard sales in July and some for the dump. Strange how we acquire so much. My office upstairs is filled with police hardware, toys and police patches, leaving me to wonder who I'll leave it all to when the time comes? Right now I need to get my local labor force working on our wood pile to get it cut up and stacked for the coming winter. Any volunteers?
