Now, we have this small mountain across the lake from us, it leads to the big boys and is covered with dead spruce trees. It is a major fire disaster in the making, like a lot of the hills around us. Spruce beetles hit this area of Alaska pretty hard and killed far too many trees- some fell and other stand in defiance. Well, I'd like to get permission from the state to harvest as much as we and our neighbors could get. We could build one of those wooden things the harvested trees-without limbs, would shoot down to the lake below. We might be able to get water from the upper lake, use fire hose and a generator. Once the trees hit the lake, we tie them into rafts and use a small boat or two to guide them to the south beach. This is where they'll be brought to shore, cut up and loaded onto trucks and trailers. Depending on how many workers we have, we might be able to harvest a couple hundred cords and fill every woodshed in Moose Pass. I'll probably be the one standing by with the ambulance, having already brken half a dozen bones as I rolled down the mountain and a bruised chest from where my wife thumped me for being physically involved. But I've always wanted to go up that way. Supposed to be a couple monstrous grizzly bears up there.
With all the strange weather we've expected the bears to be waking up and wandering about. We know something is out there at night cause our hunters get real excited and chase something about the yard and into the woods. What they don't have in size they have in speed, quickness in movement and numbers. But they haven't brought any bear rugs yet, not even bear killer. It will also be another month or so before the moose frequent our property and bear killer drives those high steppers crazy and she's yet to be stepped on.
I was just reminded...funny how old memories just pop in for a visit, of an long ago military event that occurred in the back woods of Eielson Air Force Base, 22-miles east of Fairbanks. If you do not recall, this is where Mona and first met. Anyhow, this was before Mona arrived and I was training a couple guys on how to handle the 10-passenger snow track. We often training in the summer and fall, in the event it broke down, no one froze at minus-death. Mark was one of my buddies, a young kid of 22- who was about to go home, somewhere back east with an Honorable Discharge in his suitcase and he had one quest to fulfill and asked if I'd help. I was different back then, sort of a clown at time and my family was still in California. Living in the barracks was like living in a frat house at times. But I agreed and he came out as we headed for back country.
Mark always wanted to slap a moose on the butt. Yup, that was his quest. I'm glad he never went to Vietnam, I doubt he would've lasted long. Well, I think it was more than 4 hours into the ride when we sighted a young moose down by a creek. I was in the passenger seat with a trainee at the wheel. But before he could stop the vehicle, Mark was out the back door and headed into the brush, followed by a swarm of mosquitoes, which he wasn't prepared for and all his swinging his arms around brought a larger cow moose out into the clearing by the creek and Mark didn't see it. So, I changed seats with the trainee and shoved the transmission into gear, grounded 1st gear and for a brief second went airborne as we headed off the roadside and down into the little valley. Oh, I forgot to advise my two airmen what I had in mind and now I had two minor scratches from their heads meeting with the interior wall of the track vehicle. But Mark was zeroed in on that older calf, who from the road we thought was old enough to be on her own and he still hadn't seen Big Mamma. Thankfully the fathers leave the females after the night of frolic and its up to mom to raise their child.
Mom senses danger now as Mark moves ever closer, but I was heading straight for the stream and this was not a comfortable tourist ride for the guys in back, even once they got their safety belts on. Hey, I hit the roof a couple times at least, racing over berms, boulders and all in 2nd gear. But I knew 3rd gear would've bogged me down in this marsh and I couldn't stop, Mark would have to run through the slop and latch on to the moving vehicle to escape an enraged mamma moose. My aim was to hit the stream head on and let the splash scare off both mamma and baby, but it didn't quite work out that way. The Stream was a wee bit deeper then I remembered and we nearly became a submarine, but we actually-all three of us- witnessed a very excited Mark slap that poor baby moose on the rear and send it at a dead run for mamma. But she wasn't that far away and from the glimpses I could take as I for control and very icy water splashed up through the windows and for a brief second we got caught in the flow, but one of the tracks caught on to something and we forged ahead to climb out of the stream. I half expected to find some kind of fish flapping away on our floorboard, but I did have a very deep breathing and soaked, Mark lying on the floorboard. My splash had done the trick momentarily, but mamma was quite done and before we could travel clear of her temper, WHAM! She purposely collided with with the passenger side of the track. I stopped and waited, but she had made her statement and when I got back to the garage I would have to explain the large dent. Thankfully, she left behind some hairs and showed we had not run into a tree and tried to cover it up with some stupid moose story. Now Mark, well he wished it had been a large moose, but his face was covered in mosquito bites and he still had a tale to take home with him.
I liked driving that track in the winter, but we only used it for the rare rescue or supply run after a heavy storm. However we did have this one senior NCO that drove it twice a week during the winter, for the silliest reasons. He was just a big kids with a special toy and a bunch of us were jealous. Oh, we made sure it was clean and ready for him, all gassed up Oh so many times I wanted to leave a tack in his driver's seat. It is amazing the transformation that takes place in a person when they open their heart to Jesus. Oh, just some information, I'll probably forget this story by tomorrow. I often need something to use as a hook to pull a piece of memory back out. Unless it was a bitter memory, those seem to lay along the sideboards, ready to kick in whenever you apply the brakes too hard. Now to something different.
For those of you who live outside Alaska and have never been here, it is often hard to describe it. I have yet to see a painting, a poster or a post card that gives our country justice. I kind of see like living in Yosemite and not having to leave when your 1-2 week vacation is over. You buy a home in a large city with Mt.Denali in the distance or having beautiful mountain ranges north and south of you and if you do it right, surrounded by it. We have more lakes than any other state and our laws are easy. We were able to retire up here in the lower hills of the Chugach Range, 28.5 miles northwest of the ocean. Best of all, Alaska's wildness remains and the air is pure to breathe. So, if you cannot come to live, come for a visit. I'll even put you up, if you're not allergic to dogs, cats, children, talkative old people, but you' eat well. If you need help finding a job, summertime is best and we will help all we can. But please remember we are a Christian home. All witches, warlocks, mummies and etc., will have to sleep inside our church. People of all religions allowed, but if radicals bring weapons you'll find I'm better armed. Enough said. Enjoy Alaska! Me I fought hard not to come here and get out of my orders, but two weeks after arrival I swore I'd never leave and that was 38 yrs ago.
So easy to type when no one is here and you people are a real big hope in setting me up for daily work on my manuscript. This clears the webs out and un-kinks my fingers. But you know what I really dislike are the little things going on behind my page, like bank quote skying down numbers. I'm sure there is way to get them to disappear, but to me the computer is like operating on an alien being with your thumbs.
Let's go to the news, I have to get caught up- 3/2-3/16
Japan Times- North Korean Land Force Numbers: 5% of population is on active duty of NK's 24 million people. Another 25%-30% are in Paramilitary or Reserve Units, always ready for mobilization. North Korea Army has 950,000 military troops in uniform. They have 4,200 tanks, 2200 armored and armed vehicles, 8,600 pieces of field artillery, 5,500 multiple rocket launchers. "This is and always has been North Korea's real ace in the hole. While its threat to launch a nuclear attack on the US mainland appears to be well beyond its current capabilities, turning South Korean 's capitol into a Sea of Fire is not." (That statement was made before intelligence came in updating North Korea's recent advance with its nuclear missiles.)
Japan Times:"TV journalists slam [Japanese] minister's threat against ' biased' programs, fear media self-censorship" Concerned by recent statements by communications minister Sanae Takaichi, who said the government might suspend broadcater's operations if they air programs "it" considers politically biased. ( This is reminiscent of 1930 era Japan, when the Communist and Imperialist parties were struggling to obtain power and desired control over the early radio networks. The Imperialists eventually won. It was these men who guided the emperor into World War II in 1941.) -Stay turned for an additional story that came out today on this.
Gatestone: Iraq- (Paraphrased) Islamic State (ISIS) blew up the country's oldest Christian monastery , St. Elijah's. This church , made of carved stone, had stood in Mosul for 14 centuries. One Roman Catholic Priest said, "We see it as an attempt to expel us from Iraq [and] eliminating and finishing our existence in this land." Col. Steve Warren, spokesman for America's Military Effort Against ISIS was asked about the status of Christians in Iraq, soon after this monastery's destruction. He replied, "We've seen no specific evidence targeting toward Christians." The Assemblies of God Assyrian Church in Tehran was illegally confiscated in 2013 by the Regime. On January 7,2016 vandals damaged, robbed and wrote jihadi slogans on the Light Church in Tizi-Ouzou, Algeria.
Gatestone: Kuwait- Kuwait lawmaker Ahmed al-Azemi said that he and other lawmakers will reject an initially approved request to build ( Christian) churches because it "Contradicts Islamic Sharia Laws" He added Islamic scholars are unanimous in banning the building of non-Muslim places of worship within the Arabian Peninsula. ( Interesting, here in the USA, they use our Constitution to build Mosques... and in some of these places of worship they preach radicalism , but they plan to ban Christianity from a land where our soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines have died and were wounded physically or in their minds. Yet, we must, and I agree I yes, I fought in my war in Vietnam and I have sons who've been over there) we must allow freedom of religion. For this is a key element to our Constitution. If...if we began to pick away at it, remove a line here or there, our beloved USA , as troubled as it is right now, will indeed collapse from within and there are people waiting in the wings for just such a move.)
China Daily News- Asia: Author of a book on Japanese "Comfort Women" now estimates that the number of women victimized as comfort women, could be above 200,000. For those unaware, Comfort Women were women and girls captured by the Japanese and forced to render sexual services for the Japanese soldiers and officers. American women, living in Singapore and other British areas, became comfort women, along with their British friends. Thousands came from islands occupied between China and Australia. Australian women were kidnapped, both white and native islanders, taken back into safe areas to Comfort Women houses. Here they were abused, murdered or rendered mentally insane and later executed. Korea was also targeted by the Japanese, along with China. Very few of the Comfort Women remain alive. If not for Hitler's orders not to have any sexual contact with captured Jews, Gypsies, Africans and some others, there would've been more damage done, more injuries and death among the captured women folk. Hitler's reason, he did not want Aryan blood to be tainted by people he felt were of inferior status. Instead, millions of "inferiors" were murdered. Stalin was also right in there with Hitler, Stalin wished to ripe out whole people groups. His numbers reportedly exceeded Hitlers.
Washington Free Beacon: ( Story is one dayu old and you've might've read it-sorry if you did) Report that the US State Department will not commit to finishing review of Clinton's Top-Secret E-mails "BEFORE" the General Election. ( My Opinion here, okay. This is a total Obama/Democratic Party interference in a government investigation and it sure looks good to read in foreign papers, people who are taught of how corrupt we are. That State Department has 100 investigators, plus, plus FBI and other Federal Agencies to call upon and could easily have this investigation wrapped up in 2-weeks. They should be told by the Senate to wrap this up before the Primary begins at least. If the police operated in such a fashion, you'd move out of your town because the wolves would be ransacking your home. This is really a black eye for American Justice. But guilty or not guilty, this should've been over with on this initial offenses. Additional charges can always be brought up later as they are found, if they exist. But as it stands, if a person, no matter who they are or which party they come from, and how wealthy they might be, a criminal shall never become a President or even allowed to run for President. This shall include Senate and Congress. If in fact Clinton is guilty and Obama knows all this, he should be impeached for assisting her in reaching our country's highest office. Corruption wagging its ugly tail and we allow it. This may be the worst of the worst in Presidential Elections.)
China Globe-Beijing: (2nd story but different source) , New Guidelines issued by two television industry groups advise that same-sex romance, extramarital affairs and underage love should be excluded from TV drama series.. ( Made me wonder about their sitcoms?)
China Globe-Beijing: Algerian and German governments reach an agreement to deport Algerians who entered Germany a year ago.
China Global Times- Thailand: Tuna factory to pay out $1.3 million (US) over labor abuses. ( For Thailand this is a major labor victory, migrants and locals work long hours 6- 7 days week, in a scandal-stricken seafood industry.)
Telegraph/UK: (Paraphrased) Putin is purposefully creating refugee crisis to use migrants as weapons to "overwhelm" and "Break" Europe.
Stay With Me on This... Gatestone (Paraphrased) Report on "Sabee an anti-Semitic cult within the church." Sabeel's Theology is said to distort Old Testament teachings by denying Jews any "on-going" connecting with land of their origin and treat them as people abandoned by God. They teach most modern Christian churches that the Romans, not the Jews, crucified Jesus and denies connection between Biblical Israel , the Jewish people and State of Israel. Some people refer to this as, "Christian Palestinianism ". It is then asked then, are "these campaigns replete with fraudulent charges , as in the Inquisition, really not about Palestinians at all, but just latest incarnation of the old racist and the religious hatred of Jews?
Does this group show a clear expression of the "New anti-Antisemitism"? ( America saw a lot of such attempts to conquer from within, to destroy ways of thought and bring about collapse. In the 1930's America had the American Nazi Party, which highlighted Racism and associated with the KKK. Then we had the infamous, "America First Party", which was adamant about keeping us out of a war in Europe. their numbers grew until Pearl Harbor and the America Nazi Party was on the run. But soon after the war, the American Communist Party raised its head. Now we have such groups in every college campus going under the guise of being Chinese Cultural Centers. During the war years such activity and the war we waged was counter-intelligence and it appears this Sabeel is being used to attack our Christian groups. Their drive may be to cause a financial break or supplies shutdown between us and Israel. When I read about the ignorant or plain stupid men and women who take this spiritual mark to show they belong to the Dark One, I wonder if such ploys as this will build up the number of poor saps who listened to the lies.)
Me: I searched for and found online info concerning the "Sabeel Ecumenical Liberation Theology Center is an arguably anti0Semitic and super-secessionist organization." "Founded in 1989 by a Anglican Priest, Naim Ateek, former Canon of St. George's Cathedral in Jerusalem, Israel. Still based in Jerusalem, it has 11 chapters in western countries. In Ateek's theology, Jesus is no longer a Jew living under Roman rule, but a Palestinian living under an occupation. Ateek speaks in how Jesus is up on the cross again, with thousands of Palestinians around him. Hundreds of thousands throughout the land, Palestinian men, women and children being crucified, as Palestine becomes one huge Golgotha.. How Israeli Government crucifixion system is operating daily and has become the "Place of the Skull" ( I believe the worst of false-prophets are the ones who feel their prior religion and the people of that religion failed him, or even kicked him out. They become angry, they can be easily used, no matter how many people may be hurt.)
China Daily: ( I might have sent this to you), Australia: Gender Pay Gap revealed among top-tier female managers. Females can expect to earn $73,000 less than their male counterparts.
Japan Times: Japan's Nuclear refugees face bleak future 5 years after Fukushima crisis. One Buddhist monk from the area wears a a dosimeter around with him to record the radiation in the event radioactive hot zones remain. Badges declaring " No to Nuclear Power" adorn his Buddhist robe as he returns to his 600-year old temple. The disaster killed over 19, 000 people across Japan and caused and estimated $150 billion in damages. ( Another story to follow)
Japan Times: (Paraphrased)Only 440 of the town's 8,042 residents have returned to their community of Naraha. Nearly 70% of the returnees are over 60 years of age. They fear they cannot take a chance in growing their food, as the rice paddies and fields are filled with plastic bags filled with radioactive top soil and other ground dirt. The bags can be seen everywhere, including the beach-line, the woods and their rice paddies. ( While yesterday's story reported 40 Nuclear reactors in Japan, this story reported on 53, but both agree on only 3 operational. ) Tokyo has pledged $232 Billion over the next 5 years to rebuild the disaster area and additional funding in the 5 years to follow that. More than 160,000 people were evacuated from towns around Daiichi Nuclear Plant. Workers brought in by the company and federal disaster workers remain in town helping to shut down TEPCO reactors and decontamination projects.
China Daily: China now plans to build 30 Nuclear reactor plants along the "Silk Route", by 2030. ( Being a sci-fi buff, I sometimes wonder if Mars was once occupied and had nuclear plants all over to power all their to
ys and one day there was a meltdown and it spread. Good basic for a story..............possible.)
Japan Times: Spain- Ministry announces the seizure of 20,000 military style uniforms en route to ISIS.
Japan Times: Nuclear Watchdog Concludes the new Shika Nuclear Reactor sits a top a geological fault that might be active.
Beijing Globe- UK: (Third Story on this), BBC World Affairs Editor John Simpson reported from Beijing; "Beijing has changed noticeably in recent months; and many liberal minded people here now fear that the government of Xi Jinping has made a sharp turn towards authoritarianism ." ( I'm curious how far this will lead and when underground TV, Radio will begin. At one point this may lead to seizure in homes of phones, entertainment pieces and a radio left behind for public announcements. )
Beijing Globe/ Jordan: ISIS is making millions of dollars every week, taking in up to $20 million a month, being used for its war chest. Foreign currency, removed from Mosul Banks when ISIS took control, to a reported over $400 million, is being funneled as cash into legitimate currency markets in the Middle East. Returns are wired via unsuspecting financial authorities in Iraq and Jordan, a Jordan Parliamentary Committee was told. ISIS is reported to have looted $429 million from the Central Bank of Mosul. ISIS is also using pension fund payments still being paid by the Iraqi Government to civil servants living in Mosul.
Beijing Globe- Iraq: US has warned the Iraqi Government of a possible "Tsunami Wave" moving across Iraq if the very full Mosul Dam collapses. Warning states hundreds of thousands face death, but Iraqi Government is helpless to evacuate those people in the Islamic State controlled areas.
All for tonight, Folks. God Bless- BILL
