Haven't heard how the 4th of July went in Seward, as a lot of people arrive to watch the Mount Marathon Race and join in the festivities. I heard Seward was one of the few places in the state actually having fireworks. Fire danger has gradually put a damper on most firework, but Seward shoots their out over the ocean. But this year the Swan Lake Fire and all its 1-3 or more hour closures was bound to keep some people home. We watched a lot of car pass by our front yard as we live close to the highway that goes to Seward to the south 28.5 miles and Anchorage to the north, 90 plus miles. Soldotna, Kenai and Homer are on the other side of the Kenai Peninsula, with Soldotna some 65-miles west of us, Kenai 8 miles to the north of Soldotna and Homer some 70 or so miles south of Soldotna. PRetty drives when the flats don't fill up with smoke. We can see two active volcanoes from Soldotna, Mt. Spur and Mt. Redoubt. They really stick up and pretty often we can see smoke or steam shooting up from Redoubt. LAst big eruption was nearly twenty years ago, which covered Kenai and Soldotna with a few inches of black/gray ash. Lava can't reach the cities because of the Cook Inlet. There's a third volcano down the line but too far away to see. Lots of active volcanoes in Alaska, most of them on the Aleutian Chain. We get a lot of shakers and some 7 point quakes, but it's been a long time since the Good Friday Earthquake of 1964 nearly flattened Anchorage...a 9.2 if I recall...might've been worse. Look it up, lots of photos on the different websites. From what I read of California, they have a lot of shaking going on. But they do have two major fault lines running the length of the states, one of them just off shore. They've had three bad quakes on July 4th, 5th and 6th. Reaching 6 to 7 points and now the scientists fear an 8.2 is right around the corner... which could mean tomorrow or ten years away.
Have several guests visiting Canaan and Patrick, making the little ones real happy. They've also taken temporary custody of a purebred German Shepherd, while the owner os working two weeks up on the slope. Jobs up there pay real well but your gone for 2 plus weeks at a time. They live in dorms and eat in chow halls. Messy terrain in the summer, but in the winter so bitterly cold.
Book Report: Ava finished the editing of "Geronimo" and now working in "Indian Wars". I'll be sending them to the publisher at the same time. He's putting the final touches of "Homeland Security" before Amazon publishes it. Will be available by Kindle as well as paperback. Can also be found on eBook by Alaska Dreams Publishing at www. alaskadp.com.. This is my commercial spot- sorry. I'm working on Chapter 5 of Homeland Security Part Two. The Rogue Militia is about to engage the Eielson AFB defender during the July 4th Open House. In Chapter 4, the federal authorities learn the FFA militia have in their possession a stolen nuclear device, now hidden on the base. The key character, Captain Clay B. Jefferson has just come to realize just how crazy the FFAM Colonel is. He had bought the nuke from Russian Mob, who obtained it along with others when the Soviet Union broke-up. Numerous nukes actually went missing when the Soviet Union split up and some of them are Hydrogen Bombs, warheads off their missiles. This is why the cover of Homeland Security Part One has an exploding nuke blast.
Just learned all the kids are heading into Seward to hang-out at Low Point Beach, one of our favorite spots to fish from. Grandma Bea once caught a large silver salmon out there and then her pole bent. I made her pull it in hand over hand herself, knowing she would thank me later for the experience and she did. She'd never done that before. I haven't fished out there for years as I do not eat salmon anymore. With all the radiation coming out of that nuke plant in Japan for the last 7 or so years, I don't eat shrimp or fish coming out of the Pacific North West. Sometimes I'll eat halibut but I knew my friend who brings it to me uses a detector on the fish to ensure they're not contaminated.
It's weird how an imaginary line, which separates British Columbia from Alaska seems to keep the radioactive fish from swimming north into Alaskan waters. If you believe that, I know someone who might want to sell you some real special swampland.... Alaska simply fears stopping the Alaskan fisherman from doing their business. But I have seen a few photos of contaminated salmon and boy, are they ugly. Just recently, Japan began moving the radioactive fuel rods from the damaged nuke plant, but it continues to leak a stream of radioactive sludge into the Pacific. Now the Japanese are trying to convince the locals into moving back, but numerous sightings have been made of two-headed deer and worse. Chernobyl now becoming a major tourist stop, but not for me. Not enough time has gone by for nature to clean up that Russian mess. Maybe in a thousand years.

I try to keep an eye out for th earthquakes, seeing how the world is doing and also the meteorite hits and the coming asteroid now due in something over 9 years. Not supposed to hit us, but expected to have some effect on our gravity. You might want to remain in your house on that day or tie yourself to a tree. Wonder what effect it will have on gas mileage.
Recommend Netflix's Series Madam Secretary, Did like their "Designated Survivor" series until this last season- Season 5, when the profanity spilled out of the woodwork from all the stars and the sex scenes became just too much, including gay sex. Too much for this old man, turned it off. Another good series is "Person of Interest", but were only on Season 3 of 5 seasons. You really have to keep an eye on the shows ratings and why they have that rating. "I'm a fan of "Longmire" and of course "Blue Bloods", both cop shows.
Hope all is well with you all. May the Lord bless your days and answer your prayers. BILL
