Recently, the news sites have been filled with news about the 2006-2011 Government UFO investigation. Still, $22 million doesn't seem like a lot for a 5 year program. This new one comes under a much longer name, and I prefer the older investigation of the 1950's - 1960's, called "Project Blue Book". One of the key investigators in this former investigation was a retired USAF pilot, who had an encounter while flying a military aircraft.
I have probably told you of my own experiences, but some of you are new readers. My first strange encounter was in 1958, I was young and riding through the Arizona desert with my father. Daytime and his Pontiac was a convertible. We were on an old road when my father saw something in his rear view mirror, I turned around and saw this flying thing, without wings. I caught up with us and just for a brief second it hovered over us by a good 30-feet. My father continued driving. He was a was Korean War vet who saw a lot of action, and he just didn't get all the excited. Or, so he made me think. Then the machine flew ahead for maybe a mile and sheered off to the left. That's when my Dad pulled over to see if I was all right. Of Course at 5, I was really excited. As you can see I never forgot it.
When I was stationed at Whiteman Air Force base in Missouri in 1971, the 351st Security Police, went through a strange event. Whiteman was a nuclear missile base, longer before it became a B-2 Bomber facility. We has missile silos scattered all about the outside farmlands. People had them off in their backyards and raised their cattle around them. I was going through my initial training as a law enforcement specialist- base police, but I was required to spend time with the security part of the job. This meant guarding planes and missiles. When I silo had to be opened for work on the missile, we had to be out there. A 16-ton cover was opened to provide daylight and leakage of repair fumes. Each ten missiles had a center underground facility and this was where the launch officer lived- always underground with their keys ready to grab when the codes came through. Now, I remember, we had the Minuteman Missiles, not quite as big as the Trident Missiles. I took a tour of the underground place once my security clearance came through. I was really impressed. On the surface was where the Security Police lived and this consisted of a team of SPs, ready to respond whenever an alarm went off on the heavy fencing surrounding a silo. Most often it was kids throwing rocks, cattle or aggravated farmers and ranchers kicking the thing. They lost a lot of yardage to these silos. A set of 24 hour tapes are always going recording radio calls and all telephone calls going out and coming in. One did not screw around with the communication system, for your voice was always heard in the Command Center that handled all the silos. Now and then they'd get some real crank calls. One such call, or so it was thought at first, came in from such a farmer. His silo was less than 500 feet from his back door. He called after midnight and wondered what kind of plane was sitting out on the silo, making strange noises. The lights were too bright he said. Well, to land on the silo it should of set off alarms, but it didn't and the only type of aircraft to land on top of one would be a helicopter and all the base helicopters were accounted for, and the airspace was restrict above Whiteman's area. Being the call came in from the farmer the local SP team went out there. The aircraft was not found, but what they did find put the whole base on alert. There were circular burn marks covering the silo. If I remember it right there was 3 rings, with one larger than the other two. Oddest part was how there was not a single blip on the radar. The very next day, that 16-ton cover was removed, placed on a low-ride flatbed trailer, will covered and hauled away. None of the base gate guards ever remember seeing the truck and trailer enter the base. They had apparently hauled it elsewhere,
There was the blue eyes incident, which I will finally write about at some future time. The story that the Rosewell Aliens, were started at our highest security facility on Edwards AFB, Calif. So many weird aircraft were tested there, you'd think they were influenced by 1950's TV Sci Fi. NASA was testing with three styles of lifting bodies, each one was piloted by a fearless test pilot, such as Chuck Yeager. These vehicles would be attached to the lower wing of a B-52 bomber. It was numbered 0008, the 8th B-52 to be made. Years earlier it was dropping the X-15. These newer lifting bodies were being used to test flight path and guide ability as a predecessor for the Space Shuttle, which I was soon privileged to see the inside of. I also got to sit in the cockpit of the XR-71 spy plane and the B-1 bomber as it was being tested at Edwards. We were the flight test center for the Air Force and all the companies wanting to see aircraft to NASA and the military. A very cool place to be stationed for 4.5 years. Anyhow, when one of these lifting bodies flew I received several phone calls about UFOs. I received the calls because I was the desk sergeant for my SP flight. That leads into my last story-
It was a regular evening, I was working the desk and it had been a boring night. No domestics, bar fights at the NCO club and only one drunk driving arrest as I recall. That evening a very strange looking man walked in, he wanted to see the base commander. As I recall, one of my patrols brought him in. They had found him walking around the base Test Pilot School. No gates, simply locked up. In my mind I thought this guy could've walked right out of a 1950's sci-fi or been a school teacher from the same era. He was of medium height, had a flat-top haircut. He was white and wearing very heavy black plastic glass frames and the lens were nearly bubbles. He wore a short sleeve button down short-sleeved white shirt. No tie, but he had one of those plastic pocket protectors, jammed full of pens and pencils. He wore gray slacks, thin black belt and regular brown shoes, slightly scuffed. His image is right in my mind, burned in you might say. When I asked him again what he desired, he answered it was to see the base commander. He wanted to report a strange vehicle that had crashed in the desert and he wondered why no one hadn't come to get it yet. He also said he tried to get inside to check for injured but was unable to find an entry point. Then he produced the photos, taken by an old Polaroid. At this point I request my supervisor, TSgt Harrel, a really nice guy. He looked at the photos and talked a bit more with the gentleman. He was a rock hound, a hobby and he liked walking about the the desert. So did I. In my 4 years I had cover almost every inch of our desert, 300-square miles. I walked, stumbled, used 4x4 patrol trucks or my own motorcycle. But I could place the angle of this desert, but it had the same plant life. Harrel had me call the command center who put me in direct contact with the base commander. Almost right away I was ordered to seize all photos, have him driven to the base perimeter and advised if he entered the base again he would be placed under arrest. Back then we said apprehended, civilian police arrested. I was not happy with the reception I had to deliver. But I obeyed orders. After the man had left, a senior officer...I think he was a Lt. Colonel. ( Wow! my computer just went crazy, but I'm back). The officer took possession of the photos and I was ordered not to put anything in my 24-hour police blotter. The blotter showed anything that happened to the three flights of SPs, including our contact with civil authorities. I had radios for the County Sheriffs for L.A. County and Mojave County, plus the California Highway Patrol. Our base was open with two highways running through it. Now it has gates.
Now I've seen photos of the US Army and US Air Force attempts to build a flying saucer, it wouldn't fly. But, something occurred in the early 1970s, and the scientists were suddenly building all these different models. One of the lifting bodies was actually tear shape, with an extended nose. Reminded most of us of what an alien fighter might look like. Who knows, maybe all the movies gave the new whiz kids ideas. Edwards also had underground hangers. You could watch a test aircraft come in on the emergency land area- one of three dry lake beds, and suddenly, it vanished. I saw one early on when I was pulling flight line patrol.
A closing fact. During our ten-year war in Vietnam, there were more UFO sighting, by eye, radar and satellite, over that country then any other part of the world. Seems someone might be watching us at war
Well, you all have the privilege to think what you want. I myself believe there is life out there, as to whether someone or something is visiting us, I suspect so. But that would mean they are more advanced. I believe with the entire Universe out there, God place more life and for a lot reasons. Maybe no one else looks like us, thinks like us or possibly even believes in a creator. Maybe we will find out, maybe not.
