With so much rain, much like the summer of 1986, I could probably charge money for people wandering through. It's like a mini safari and I can provide the deadly ankle-biter dogs. Truthfully, when I go to church next door, I come out and give the yard a good looking. For we have had moose and bear back there, which I believe I've shared you the stories of such events. I think it is humorous that while going to school in Southern California I had to be watchful of the youth gangs, as I had to walk through different gang neighborhoods. 99% of the time there was no problem, but it was that 1% that left some marks in my memory. Now up here, it is the wild animals, wild kids and neighborhood canines. My hounds have become used to running wild as they had 4-5 acres to run free, but no that's been closed off by new homes being put in, or summer cabins. Neighbors. Our pastor lives right next door in the church parsonage, nicest people and a great pastor. Their son, who is 11 or 12, I forget, comes over now and then to visit me, as he knows I'm home all the time and he brings me things. See, I collect cartoon toys, mostly Disney, Hanna-Barbara and such, and the older versions of the Avengers. My shelves around me desk are lined with them. So, he brings me these and I trade with him. A terrific kid. I've collected police toys for 30-years or so and these cartoon toys since I was a kid. One Christmas, my Dad came up for a visit and brought me the 12-inch G.I. Joe, with all the extras. If I had only held on to them. The first issue G.I. Joe is worth $30,000 just for the 12 inch figure. All though my police toys are packed up now, I continue to collect them. Have to stay up on the new issues.
Had to stop for a moment, I suddenly found myself alone with a baby and a 3 year old. Everyone was gone, out of the house having their smoke breaks. But John Alex came in and rescued me. The baby doesn't know what to do with my beard and my glasses, I'm still the known factor in her life.
I just noticed the trees are just now beginning to turn color, taking on a gold hue color and eventually they all drop and have to be raked up. We place the leaves in huge wore basket for 2-3 years on a rotation basis and they make some real nice dirt for planting. The snow is very helpful in this, piling up 3-4 feet on top of the baskets. But now, I've got baby trees trying to take over the garden area. These are birch and alder, growing up from the tree's roots. At least with these I won't need a chain saw.
Now for some news: Some of this is two weeks old, leading up to today, but these are items I found interesting.

"London Mayor Sadiq Khan banned advertisement that promote 'Unrealistic Expectations of Woman's Body Image and Health". Gatestone News: Turkey- "Anti-Semitic Academics...where is the outrage against Turkey?" Story by A.J. Caschetta. "In the last 12-months alone, the Turkish President Erdogan has closed at least 12 Universities and confiscated all their properties. Invoking Article 301 of the Turkish Penal Code- which amorphously criminalizes insults to Turkishness.(new word?) . The Turkish government or using the Turkish military- he has closed down numerous publishing houses and forced Turkish journals to remove from their editorial boards scholars who criticize him. Hundreds have been fired and black listed, unable to work in Turkey, and their passports confiscated, now they're unable to leave." In Turkey, academics are currently at the mercy of President Erdogan, who demands their compliance and threatens dissenters. As Turkey slides deeper into totalitarianism, academia yawns and many professors fail to stand-up vigorously and speak out publicly against what actions the President takes and now he demonizes Israel and takes steps through various attempts to destroy Israel by suffocating it economically.
I hope you recall the various stories I've listed concerning ASEAN -Alliance or Association of South East Asian Nations. It used to be Alliance, but lately I've seen Association being used. Well, now in the Philippines, President Duterte has signed Proclamation # 282, declaring the entire month of August as ASEAN Month, for every year in the future. This is the 50th Anniversary on ASEAN, which began in 1967.
ASEAN hopes to become 4th largest economic bloc by 2030. ASEAN said to be the guarantor of peace and stability in the region.

BOOK News: I'm still working on Book 8 in the Fire & Ice Series. Took a few days off while we had so many guests. But last night, while I slept I was given, or I created a new story. Set in World War II, a Top Secret grouping of "egghead's" who hold Doctorates in numerous areas work in connection with the OSS (pre-CIA), in the fight against Hitler. Only the President, General Eisenhower and Colonel Donovan, who controls the OSS, know about this band of patriotic volunteers. From Science, study of history, metallurgy, plagues and chemical bombs, to the A-bomb, they're supported by two OSS Agents and a threesome from Hollywood's best Special Effect Department, They break Hitler's private Codes, stop him from delivering small pox and other plagues against American troops, and along the way they'll discover a lost civilization.
I read my local paper last night and they did a special piece dealing with the South Carolina riot and the life of a son, who had turned away from Christianity to become a Neo-Nazi. I had a great amount of sadness for the parents who have come under major attacks by once good neighbors and friends. These Christian Parents of adult children are being held responsible for the son's new beliefs- violent beliefs. When I was a new troop, a Law Enforcement Specialist in the Air Force Security Police, I became involved in a large riot on our base in Missouri. Two-months later we had a second, but smaller riot. Back then, I thought back to watching the glow of the fires from the Watt's Riots, I came so-very close as a 13-year old to being injured or worse in the Phoenix race riots, we were caught downtown moving furniture out of storage when the guns went off. I seemed to be very involved in racial disturbances, including the problems in Dillingham when the fishermen were being wronged by the major corporations- boats and houses set on fire....and worse. I mention all this only to say I fail to understand all these people, no matter the race, for in everyone of these disturbances the angry people, no matter what they were fighting for, always destroyed the property in their own neighborhoods. Stores that belonged to friends being shot or set on fire.
Now were rioting over statues and the latest was Robert E. Lee. I studied him once and found him to be a valiant gentleman. He disliked the slave issue, but he refused to fire a gun or wave a saber against his fellow Virginians. Even General Grant saluted this man at the surrender and was heard to state his admiration for this man. So, what now, do we tear down the Jefferson Memorial and the Washington Monument??? Do we re-write our history? Some of this history is also a warning that we will not repeat such actions again. Is this how civilization disappeared and we now have only pottery and large holes in the ground that were once used by an ancient people, that we have no history for.
From up here in Alaska, surrounded by these beautiful mountains, I gaze in the direction of the Lower 48 and my heart hurts, We are tearing up our country and some say it could once again lead to a civil war. Not over land, cession even, but idealism. From Neo-Nazi to the Christian Right and all the groups in between, people are mad and they're failing to control it. This could very well lead to the end of the United States as being a free nation, or worse. With China, Korea and Russia watching us, looking for our breaking point to take advantage of, and all the mass exodus of minorities into Europe and probably soon into America, causing a magnitude of problems, I say no, this is the wrong time to slash and slay our fellow countrymen. For the idealism behind this great nation may not survive so many attacks such as this one in South Carolina. And a parent can only do so much for their adult children and should not be held responsible for their kid's attraction to whatever political body they choose to follow. No, this is not of God.
I'm signing off now. God Bless all of you. BILL
