Hello Everyone: It's another beautiful Spring day morning here in Moose Pass, temperature at 6 a.m. was 34-degrees on the plus side and almost all of the snow and ice has vanished, except on the mountains; that took on a fresh dusting of snow a couple days ago. The fresh smells of Spring in Alaska can make a man stand idle, just to take in a few lung-fills and relish in a fine mixture of smells. No smog, few people and just nature's mixture.
Being from Southern California from birth, until I was 18, back in the 1950's, 60's and early 70's, I grew up with the brown skies of Los Angeles smog. I didn't know what a blue sky was until I went up into the mountains for YMCA summer camp. They drive you up above the layers of smog and your jaws drop and eyes go wide, the first time you see the clouds of pollution you've just driven above and for the first time you see the beauty of the blue skies. I don't think there was a kid in the bus who wanted to return into those poisonous clouds when camp ended. Once you've breathed in that clean air, you start to choke and cough until your lungs become used to the vile smog monster. When I played football in the late 60's, on a bad smog day, you could stand under one large metal H goalpost, and not be able to see the other goalpost 100-yards away. We had to have oxygen canisters on the side-lines to help the overheated players. It was during this time the state began its emission controls for vehicles and factories. But, it took time. Still, eventually most of the smog disappeared in the Los Angeles area. Now, during the hot summer days, you usually can see the San Bernardino Mountains, backed by those blue skies, we take for granted up here.
Now it seems Washington D.C. is looking real hard at the Fairbanks' wood stoves. Too much pollution they say, but a lot of people prefer wood over expensive gases or electricity to heat with. About half of the people burning wood, hit the woods to cut their own wood or they pay $250 for cut and delivered chord of spruce or birch. This is far cheaper then fuel or electricity. Sure, at minus 40 degrees and colder, the inversion layer keep the smoke over the Fairbanks area, preventing it from escaping into the skies. But, it leaves when the temperatures warm up.
Our politicians, making those nice salaries they keep adding to every year, forget there's still a lot of people out there with wood stoves and they just can't go out and buy a propane or diesel furnace. We own both, a large wood stove that can heat most of our 2,000 square feet and a beast of a diesel furnace. But, we haven't used the furnace in 10-years. We like wood and the smell is sweet, but at those cold temps the polluted diesel fumes and the easy to see, wood smoke, still remain, unable to escape into the skies. Of course, here in Moose Pass, we only have rare moments of a minus 40 temperature. Yes, ice fog is tough to drive in and I've never seen a thicker fog in my life, but even in Fairbanks it only hangs around for a week or so. But they need to come down on the real culprits of these air violations and this is the massive coal burning steam plants on two local military bases and the City of Fairbanks utility plants. Most of the ice fog is attributed to these three plants and the ice fog is always heavier in their areas. The borough (county for some of you, folks) couldn't get control of the problem, so they went to the Feds for help. But are the feds offering financial help to switch over to new furnaces or help pay for the fuels or electricity? I sure haven't heard of them doing that and when they begin citing homeowners for these violations, people will begin moving away, unable to afford the costs of switching over. Some of the city dwellers will move to the bush, where there are fewer EPA laws. Will people want to see Alaska change to conform with Lower 48 laws? I imagine there will be a lot of court battles to come. An interesting thing about ice fog, it doesn't stink, it's just thick and Alaskans have learned how to deal with it. Well, some of the 1st year people who have recently arrived here, have a bit of trouble. They drive too fast for conditions and get into accidents. The smart ones learn fast. This has been my community involvement notice. Enough on ice fog.
I also believe our local, state and federal politicians should work for a dollar a year. This way you would have only the politicians who are serious about helping their communities, state and the U.S.. Their time of actual work for the government is limited. City and borough council members work one night a week and handle some homework for the various committees they are on. Federal politicians work full time, all expenses paid, nice offices and travel around the world on our dime. I also feel there should be no paid lobbyists. But the politicians will never allow that, they enjoy the gifts and campaign funds they receive. Another political moment brought to you. Up-to-date info on my writing projects: I am now on Book # 2 of my "Fire and Ice" series. Blake's War is coming out for sale through Amazon. $19.95 a copy and Kindle will soon follow. "Legend of Silene" is nearly finished of being edited and then Susan, my editor, will begin on "Badge and the Cross" Series. First book is entitled "Rookie". I am currently trying to work 9-10 hours a day, which for me is strangely relaxing. Some of my critics say I tend to bog down in my story. So, I am now attempting to correct that problem, as I value these people's opinions. With each book I learn a bit more about what writing entails. So, if you have an opinion, tell me about it. Anything helps. My main goal is to get Christian fiction out there, into a market that has little for male readers and also, female who enjoy war, police, and adventure stories. Plus, I've now added westerns and a fable or two.

Washington Free Beacon: Washington D.C.- "Feds spent $13.5 million on vehicles it doesn't know it needs". Audit by government Accountability Office discovered the government had ordered vehicles with leather seats, keyless starts, powered seats and video entertainment systems.
Gatestone News: Germany- German police knew as early as March 2016, that Anis Amri, a 34-year old Tunisian was planning a terrorist attack, which he carried out on December 19, 2016 at the Christmas Market in Berlin. He was not deported prior to the attack "because he didn't have a passport". (????) (Germany clearly dropped the ball on this one).
Telegraph News: Germany- Migrant crime in Germany rises 50%, based on new figures showing 2016 criminal activity. Crimes by immigrant, illegal and asylum seekers, plus refugees, rose to 174,438 cases in 2016, a 52.7% rise over 2015. Most of the cases involve repeat offenders.
Taipei Times: Philippines- "Detainees found in hidden Manila police station. Over a dozen people were shoved into a "closet-sized" cell, hidden behind a book shelf and had been held in there for over a week. In need of medical attention, food and water, they well held under the pre-text of drug trafficking, and police "demanded money for their release". The discovery came when Human Rights Commission, unannounced inspection. Cries of "Here we are!" alerted the inspection team.
Manila Times: North Korea- In its hope to gain support in it's pledge to "release Hell on Earth over America", North Korea is approaching the 10-country ASEAN to gain their support. But ASEAN has grave concerns over North Korea's recent threats.
Global Times: China- European Union was warned by China to stop interfering in Hong Kong affairs and to contribute more into EU and China's relationship.
Global Times:United Kingdom- Holy, "Night of the Lepus", a monster movie about 2-ton bunnies with ketchup on their teeth for blood, run over some small towns. But, recently, a woman displayed her 1.1 meter long live bunny. A relative was a 90 centimeter long rabbit. (If you haven't see the movie, you should add it to your list for monster flicks, but be prepared to laugh your head off at the close-ups of these gigantic bunnies)
Global Times: South Sudan- nearly 400,000 cases of Malaria were registered here since Jan 2017. 19 people have died of the sickness. Cholera has killed 172 in South Sudan since June 2016.
Global Times: South Africa- Police advised to "shoot to kill" in confronting "rogue and criminals", to be listed as in "line of duty".
Global Times: Jordan- Though a strong Muslim country, the Government's new law will stop rapists from escaping prison time by marrying their victims. Such Muslim Law has allowed rapists the opportunity to further abuse their new wife and continue to rape others. (Way to go, Jordan!)
The Local: Sweden- For the first time, a Neo-Nazi group called "Nordic Resistance Movement" is being allowed to march in this year's Annual Political Festival, and have a booth to sell their wares.
Japan Times: Japan- "Japan gets real: What to do when the 10-minute missile warning comes."

The UN has warned Europe to prepare for the arrival of millions more coming from Africa, Asia and the Middle East. ( Tell me it isn't so. Have these governments and our own avoided the question of a massive plan to populate EU, Canada and the US with Muslims, to gradually take over the governments through legitimate elections, See what's happening in Eastern Canada to give you some idea. London's mayor is Muslim, elected by his fellow Muslims and English laws are changing o favor Muslims. While we keep our eyes on jihadists, they run a back door operation to take over the land. Muslim women are shown to be having twice as many babies as any other religious group. Wake-up. No, I'm not saying all Muslims are bad, but Muslims come under the control of the jihadists of Iran and Saudi Arabia, by the faith itself. This is how the Muslims took over Eastern Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, with the "Sword of Islam" in the 1800's they sent Judaism and Christianity to flight . They learned how then and are using the same plan. The illegal immigrant invasion has got to be stopped, or sharia Law will eventually become the Law of our land by 2060...that was the date reported. They, the jihadists, will use our own constitution and Bill of Rights against us, while we watch football on Sunday.
